This past week, we added more Individual Sponsors! So many heroes being honored; we love it! 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗧𝗢 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗦! Our sponsored flag count so far is over 𝟯𝟴𝟯 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴𝘀.
Our striking display of flags will run through Saturday, June 20, 2026. Please join us as an Individual or Corporate Sponsor and honor your hero(es). Your sponsorship enables the Clayton Rotary Club to provide community programs, donate to worthy causes, and award scholarships to local high school seniors, among other initiatives. You get to see a 3' x 5' American Flag on a 10' pole fly in your hero's honor in the Leigh Hudson Field of Honor next to the pond adjacent to UNC Health Johnston on Veterans Parkway in Clayton, NC. Each flag will have a medallion with your name and your hero's name on it, and you get to keep the medallion at the end of our display.

Karen "Happy" Hudson and Buddy Hudson were on duty last week at the Leigh Hudson Field of Honor! 🐾🇺🇸
Buddy proudly sported Leigh's famous "Flag Commander" hat while posing with Happy, who is a Gold Sponsor of Flags for Heroes this year. Together, they spent time volunteering at our information table, where visitors can ask questions, get help locating sponsored flags, sponsor additional flags, or purchase official Flags for Heroes t-shirts.
As we approach the final days of this year's display, there is still time to honor the heroes who have made a difference in your life. Whether it's a veteran, active-duty military member, first responder, healthcare worker, teacher, family member, or anyone who inspires you, a sponsored flag is a meaningful tribute.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Flags For Heroes Opening Ceremony and Community Flag Raising on Sunday, May 24, 2026! We were grateful that the weather held up and that the rain stayed away for such a meaningful event. Unfortunately, the wind did kick up, preventing us from enjoying the tethered hot-air balloon rides from Over The Rainbow Balloon "AD"ventures.
We were honored to hear from two inspiring speakers, Leonard Mike Scruggs and Col. Rudy Baker, whose words reminded us of the importance of honoring the heroes in our lives. Following the ceremony, our community came together to raise 1,000 flags at our Leigh Hudson Field of Honor; it is a truly moving sight and a powerful tribute to those who serve, sacrifice, and inspire. A special thank you to UNC Health Johnston for allowing us to use their land to host our display every year since we started Flags for Heroes in 2020. It's a beautiful site and provides a picturesque backdrop for our majestic display.
A special thank you to Publix Super Market at Marketplace at Flowers Crossroadsfor generously providing hot dogs, drinks, chips, and brownies for everyone in attendance.
We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Clayton Police Department, including K-9 Tim, and the Clayton Fire Department for attending and bringing out the fire trucks. The large American flag hanging from the ladder truck made an incredible backdrop for the ceremony and was appreciated by all the kids in attendance, including the kids-at-heart! Thank you to the Civil Air Patrol and American Legion Leonard Moore Post #71 for their participation in our ceremony, and Elena Overton for a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem.

Our Flags for Heroes display features flags with a medallion hanging from them. On each medallion is the name of a hero recognized by a member of our community. Today, on Memorial Day, these flags also collectively serve as a way for us to remember and give thanks to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Today, Sunday, May 24, 2026, is our Opening Ceremony and Flag Raising at 5:00 pm. Please join us at the Leigh Hudson Field of Honor next to the pond adjacent to UNC Health Johnston on Veterans Parkway in Clayton, NC. The ceremony starts at 5:00 pm.
Where do we have you covered:

Thanks to Publix Super Market at Marketplace at Flowers Crossroads, we'll have hot dogs, drinks, cookies, and watermelon. Yum.
Overflow Parking: There is very limited parking on the field, but we have been given permission to use the Clayton Endoscopy Center parking lot (300 Veterans Parkway). Please be respectful of their property.
Looking to volunteer/help? We need help raising the flags at the end of the ceremony. All those who are willing and able are welcome! Many hands make light work!
Where do we not have everything covered:
If you want to sit and don't want to sit on the ground, please bring your own folding chair. Additionally, it could rain--(hopefully not) so bring an umbrella and maybe a rain jacket. We do not have tents to sit under.
