St. Louis County SAVE 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for animals in STL County. St. Our primary objectives are to:

1. Increase awareness of St.

Louis County SAVE is a 501c(3) non-profit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for animals in STL County and lower the euthanasia rate to as close to zero as possible. Ensure that the welfare of the animals and the community is always the FIRST priority in all decisions made regarding the St. Louis County Animal Shelter.

2. Advocate for animals in the St. Louis County Animal Shelter.


3. Louis County residents about issues with the Shelter and mobilize them to get involved.

4. Educate policy makers about issues with the shelter and encourage them to take a proactive approach to resolving them.

🚨 FOSTERS NEEDED NOW 🚨

Our shelter is full. In fact, we’re beyond full.

Every day, more animals arrive needing safety, care, and a second chance. We are doing everything we can, but we cannot do it alone. Right now, we urgently need foster homes to help us create space and relieve the stress that comes with overcrowding.

The hopeful part? This is a crisis our community can solve.

When you foster, you’re not just helping one animal. You’re creating space for the next one who walks through our doors with nowhere else to go. One foster home creates one more empty kennel. One empty kennel creates one more lifesaving opportunity.

We need fosters for dogs, cats, and small animals. Whether you can help for a few days, a few weeks, or longer, your support makes an immediate impact.

🐯 Tony Is Grrreat! But right now he's Struggling💔

Tony is the kind of dog who should have been adopted a long time ago.

At just 2 years old and 69.5 pounds, he's a gentle soul who loves carrying around his favorite stuffies, enjoys spending time with people, walks nicely on leash, and gets along well with other dogs. He's attentive, affectionate, and has the kind of easygoing personality that makes him a joy to be around.

But shelter life is becoming harder for Tony.

The stress of living in a kennel is taking a toll, and he's having trouble keeping weight on. While he still greets people with his sweet nature, it's clear that what Tony really needs is a home. A place where he can relax, feel secure, and simply be a dog again.

It's hard to understand how a dog with so much to offer is still waiting. Tony isn't looking for anything extraordinary. Just a family, a couch, a few stuffies, and someone to love.

Tony is grrreat.

Now he just needs someone to give him the chance to prove it.

🚨💔 RIO HAS UNTIL JUNE 26 TO FIND A HERO 💔🚨

More than a year.

That's how long Rio has been waiting for a forever home.

For part of that time, Rio was fortunate enough to be in foster. There, we got to see the real Rio. The loyal companion. The affectionate best friend. The dog who just wanted to be close to his people.

Now Rio is back at the shelter.

And he's not handling it well.

The stress is overwhelming him. Rio is experiencing severe Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) in his kennel. He paces relentlessly. He alarm barks. He launches himself vertically against the kennel walls. He chews through blankets, beds, and toys until there is nothing left, forcing him to lie on a bare concrete floor.

This isn't who Rio is.

This is what happens when a sensitive dog spends too long without a place to call home.

Rio is only 3 years old and 45 pounds. He would do best as an only dog (and no cats), where he can focus all of his love and devotion on his person. And trust us, Rio has a lot of love to give.

For over a year, Rio has waited patiently. He's watched other dogs leave. He's packed and unpacked his hopes more times than we can count.

Now he's out of time.

📅 Rio needs a hero by June 26.

🚨 LEGEND NEEDS A RESCUE BY JUNE 23 🚨

His name is Legend, and now he needs someone to help write the next chapter of his story.

Legend is approximately 2 years old and arrived at the shelter as part of a recent cruelty investigation involving suspected dog fighting. While the connection has not been confirmed, what is certain is that this young dog has every reason to distrust people, and yet he chooses love anyway.

Legend has passed his dog-to-dog assessments and has successfully engaged in play with another dog. He is social, playful, soft-natured, toy-driven, and easy to handle. One of his most endearing traits is the collection of adorable submissive grins he offers when he's happy, a sweet reminder of the gentle soul hiding behind his tough-looking exterior.

Despite whatever happened before he arrived here, Legend remains optimistic, resilient, and eager to connect. He still lights up around people. He still wants to play. He still believes his future can be better than his past.

But hope alone won't save him.

Legend needs a rescue commitment by June 23. He deserves the chance to discover what it feels like to be safe, loved, and cherished for the rest of his life.

🚨 DOLLY NEEDS A RESCUE BY JUNE 23 🚨

$100 sponsorship to the tagging rescue from SAVE + $500 in pledges.

Dolly is only about 2 years old, and despite everything she has been through, she still greets the world with hope.

Dolly came to the shelter as part of a recent cruelty investigation involving suspected dog fighting. While a connection to dog fighting is considered likely, it has not been confirmed. What we do know is this: Dolly has not let her past define her.

Since arriving at the shelter, Dolly has undergone multiple behavior evaluations by Saint Louis County's behavior team, with additional assessment support from Even Chance. She has passed both dog-to-dog assessments and has consistently shown herself to be confident, energetic, people-oriented, and easy to handle for routine care and veterinary procedures. Around other dogs, she is appropriate and neutral. Around people, she absolutely shines.

Like so many pit bulls, Dolly is resilient beyond words. She is toy-driven, affectionate, eager to connect, and still believes that people are worth loving. She is young. She is full of life. And she deserves the opportunity to leave her past behind and start over.

Time is running out. Dolly must have a rescue commitment by June 23.
