Just reminding everyone who didn't take the time to read this article by Sydney Cromwell, WHY we are opposed to a quarry in our area. Read what Cahaba and Black Warrior Riverkeepers have to say about this potentially affecting water sources.

If you didn't have time to attend the 1-hour webinar in June, you also missed an Environmental Sciences major from Birmingham Southern giving clear demonstrations of the kinds of issues that arise from quarrying. Considerable groundwater is used in the extraction process, notwithstanding changes in groundwater flow paths necessitated by topography changes. There are cases of this radically changing lakes and/or streams even right here in Alabama.

Be careful, all, with all this logging traffic on Cedar Mountain Road lately. It runs early and then all day. Be especially careful pulling out of your driveways. These logging trucks cannot stop on a dime. My own driveway has sightline compromises. My daughter is taking the long way to come see me right now with a newborn in the car just to be on the safe side of life.

If you aren't paying attention to this, you should. Jefferson County is currently accepting RPFs for a new comprehensive land use plan. Why is this important? Because this is the document that determines how our "land" is utilized (including unincorporated areas of the County). The current plan is very supportive of Jefferson County's natural resources and the rights of citizens. We need to make sure the new plan is too. Here is a link to the RFP:
