Today we honor and remember Captain John Sax, a Marine aviator who lost his life on June 8, 2022, along with four other Marines, when their MV-22B Osprey suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure. John was 33 years old.
Before John graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2013 with a degree in Aeronautical Science, he'd already earned his private and commercial pilot certificates with multi-engine and instrument ratings. After serving as a certified flight instructor, John entered the Marine Corps, graduating from Officer Candidate School in 2016, and beginning his journey as a Marine aviator.
John's love for flying was eclipsed only by his love for his family, his wife, and two daughters, one of whom John would never meet. She was born three months after she lost her father.
DWYERFIRE is honored to support John's daughter with dance and soccer. His daughter's love of dance reminds us of her father tearing up the dance floor; her affinity for teamwork and developing friendships through soccer remind us of John's spirit. He loved being part of a crew and flying with others who shared his passion for flight and service.
John Sax was many things: an outstanding pilot, a loving husband, a devoted father, son, brother, and friend. Today we honor John for all he was to so many; we honor a hero who gave his life to our country.
DWYERFIRE is honored to support his two daughters whose love for life ensures their father's legacy lives on.

Memorial Day. The one day a year we, as a nation, set aside to honor our Fallen. Maybe we hang a flag on the front porch. Wear red, white, and blue. Maybe, before we eat our burgers and potato salad, we add a few words of acknowledgement to the blessing.

One day. That’s what we give our Fallen.

The 64 Gold Star Children we support through DWYERFIRE honor and remember EVERY day. Every morning they wake up, they know their dad or their mom is not there. Every night at dinner, they see an empty seat at the table. Every game, every practice, these kids will never hear that one voice in the stands.

Yet, they keep playing. They try football in middle school for the first time. They win state gymnastics championships after breaking an ankle. They move to a new state and make the all-star travel baseball team. They don’t give up. They keep playing.

We founded DWYERFIRE to support these young athletes, never anticipating how much their strength would support us. Gold Star kids honor their Fallen Heroes by living their lives the best they know how, no matter how much they miss their dad or their mom. They inspire us.

Today — and every day— let’s join these amazing and resilient DWYERFIRE athletes and honor our Fallen. Let’s do more than hang a flag and wear red, white and blue. Let’s tell their stories. Let’s support their families. Let’s always — every day — respect and appreciate our Fallen for their dedication to duty, their loyalty, and for the ultimate sacrifice they made for our nation.

May 25, 2019. Seven years ago on Monday, Memorial Day, the day on which we honor our Fallen Heroes this year, Sergeant First Class Kyle Evans left us, passing away unexpectedly in his sleep. He left behind his loving wife Lacey, and four-year-old daughter Maryn. His son, Macklin, would be born three months later, and although he'd never meet his father, he'd hear the stories, filled with admiration and respect. He'd learn that his father was a loyal husband and loving father, caring son, admired brother, reliable friend, and professional soldier. Kyle saw the worst of war and faced it with strength and courage.
Born in Childress, Texas in 1986, Kyle enlisted in the Army in 2005, and completed Infantry training at Ft.
Benning, GA, before being assigned to the 1st Armored Division in Germany, where he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq. In 2009, he graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course. Kyle's career included deployments to the Philippines, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and Iraq. In 2017, Kyle returned to the U.S. Army JFK Special Warfare Center and NCO Academy as a senior small group leader.
DWYERFIRE is honored to support 11-year-old Maryn and 6-year-old Mackie in their sports and fitness activities. Today, and every day, we think of these resilient athletes and we honor their father, an American hero.

Today we honor Sergeant Justin Story on his angelversary.

Born September 30, 1994, in Avon Park, Florida, Justin graduated from George Jenkins High School before joining the Army in 2013. He deployed twice as an infantry soldier before being assigned as a recruiter in North Alabama. After his second deployment, Justin battled PTSD and, tragically, took his own life on May 6, 2020.

Justin enjoyed fishing, watching WWE “wrasstling”, and his beloved Florida Gators. A jokester and life of the party, Justin never met a stranger. He loved his soldiers, his family, and he adored being a father to his three children. Axel, Briar, and Anniston were 5, 2, and 1 when they lost their father.

DWYERFIRE is honored to support Axel, Briar, and Anniston. We recognize their sacrifice and honor their father today and every day.

Arianna was eighteen months old when she lost her father in a service-connected accident. Now a high school junior, Arianna has found strength and solace on the tennis court. “Playing tennis and staying involved in sports has given me a sense of normalcy and something positive to focus on,” she says. “Tennis has helped me grow stronger and more confident. It’s given me a community of people who support and encourage me.”

We are proud of Arianna and honored to have her on our DWYERFIRE team! Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Ariannacontinues to play this sport that brings so much positivity to her life.

Three cheers for baseball! Five year old Gunner tells us, “I can hit the ball and help win the game. And I’m a good teammate!” His nine-year brother Joshua explains, “Sports have really helped me have fun, make friends, learn to be disciplined, and have a positive attitude.”

When they lost their dad, a Coast Guard warrant officer, Gunner was two weeks shy of his second birthday; Joshua was five; and, Elizabeth was seven. DWYERFIRE is honored to support these three siblings — whose individual stories of strength and growth inspire us!
