Emily was one of only 5 recipients to receive the 2023 Historical Merit Award!

Each May, in honor of Historic Preservation Month, the Tennessee Historical Commission announces recipients of the year's annual Certificate of Merit. Since 1975, THC’s Certificate of Merit Program has recognized exemplary work by individuals, groups, organizations, corporations, or governmental entities to further promote historic preservation or the study of history in Tennessee.

This year, Emily Williams received a Merit Award in the Historic Preservation category for the completion of her Eagle Scout Project: mapping the Brewer's Chapel Cemetery in Chapmansboro, TN. This project greatly added to the documentation of the cemetery, dating back to 1887.

Williams was presented the award at her Eagle Scout Court of Honor this past weekend.
