Clarksville Civitan held its weekly club meeting on September 30th and ended the 2025-26 Civitan year with style.
President of the Month Bruce Myers opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Civitan International Creed. Immediate Past President Toni Jenkins provided the invocation.
President Bruce introduced incoming President Jasmin Chambers ahead of the installation ceremony for officers and board members on October 7th. Civitan International Region 6 Director Derek Eurales Jr will preside over the installation ceremony.
During this meeting the club looked back at the Civitan year and recognized key performers.
First, Past President Donna Sabash recognized Board Director Bert Brittain for his long-standing leadership of two projects, Vidalia Onions and Claxton Fruitcakes. Bert is stepping down as project chair for those two projects.
Immediate Past President Toni Jenkins presented the look back at the year, reminding club members of the important progress the club made.
Past President Steve Zuercher continued the recognition of significant accomplishments by presenting Clarksville Civitan Good Citizen Awards to the eight past presidents who served as President during the year as they shared the duties from month to month. Members recognized were Sylvia Clardy, Merriel Bullock-Neal, Jim Hancock, Toni Jenkins, Bruce Myers, Donna Sabash, and Chuck Terry. Carolyn Loyd was not present.
The meeting was closed out with an entertaining review of the 106th Civitan International Convention in Louisville. Past President Steve Zuercher review the social and business highlights through stories and pictures. We hope to have more club members join the fun in New Orleans next August for the 107th convention.

What a day for Civitan International right here in Clarksville TN!
The Clarksville Civitan Club and Central Civitan had a huge presence at the Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome Community CARES Walk and Expo.
Clarksville Civitan presented three Civitan International Servants Heart Awards to local community stalwarts and had a table for the expo, and Central Civitan prepped and distributed hotdogs and drinks for all of the hundreds in attendance.
Additionally, Civitan members from both clubs were manning tables for other organizations in the network of nonprofits, government programs, and supporters in Clarksville. Among the organizations represented by Civitans were Forward Clarksville , Captain Spectrum, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County TN, Clarksville Adventurers, Progressive Directions, Inc, Special Olympics of Greater Clarksville, CAST & Crowns Performing Arts Center with Shining Stars.
2026-27 Civitan year Presidents Jasmin Chambers (Clarksville Civitan) and Loretta Bearden (Central Civitan) shared the honor of presenting Civitan International Servants Heart Awards to O’Neal Wiggins and Kimberly Wiggins, community volunteers, organizational leaders, and advocates for our friends with disabilities through the many multiples of organizations and passions they pursue. Jasmin and Loretta also presented to Elecxus Ellis, a college student at Austin Peay Governors and proprietor of KOFEE BROZ LLCz, a fully inclusive employer with a vision for a community where everyone has an opportunity to be themselves and use their talents for the common good. Each of today’s recipients are superior models of citizenship and hearts of service for others.
It was a good day to say, We are Civitan!

In a wonderful convergence of powers, the Clarksville Civitan Club will present Civitan International Servants Heart Awards for the 5th consecutive year at the CADS CARES Community Walk on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Wilma Rudolph Center. Elecxus Ellis is one of the citizens scheduled to receive a Civitan International Servants Heart Award this year, and Nikki-Dee Ray is scheduled to attend the event as well! How's that for God working!

At just 25, Springfield’s Elecxus Ellis is using her coffee shop and new foundation to create meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities and her community.

The Clarksville Civitan Club more than doubled its membership after inviting adults with developmental disabilities to join for free. Members say they're welcoming the very people they serve.

The September 9th meeting of the Clarksville Civitan club brought a compelling presentation from our guest speakers, Dr. James Church and Mr. Ethan Carrell with an APSU Computer Science Robot, and a special award presentation.
Dr Bruce Myers, our President for September, opening the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Civitan International Creed.
A special award was presented to member Will Shelton, son of Golden Circle member Wayne Shelton, with his first member sponsored pin. Will sponsored his DSP as a new club member. Congratulations Will!
Dr Chrurch and Mr Carrell are both faculty members in the Computer Science department at Austin Peay State University. The robot is representative of the emerging technology associated with the boom in artificial intelligence. Dr Church shared the history of the robotics program at APSU, and Mr Carrell demonstrated the abilities of this individual robot. Together they shared the outlook for the program and gave some insight into the use of the technology in everyday life.
The speakers were engaging and brought a lot of excitement to the club meeting for the week. It was also interesting the learn that our President for the month, Dr Bruce Myers, is connected to our guests as the former department chair of the Computer Science department.
