The June 10th meeting of the Clarksville Civitan Club saw another large group of members and guests join together for lots of fellowship and an interesting presentation from a community leader.
President Sylvia Clardy opened the meeting with Greg Gardner leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the Civitan Creed. Member Wayne Shelton gave the invocation in the absence of our chaplain and club Secretary Doris Davenport presented the 2nd reading of the slate of candidates for this year's elections. The third reading and voting will take place next week, June 17th.
We were honored to have the Civitan International Region 6 Director, Derek Eurales Jr attending the meeting. For the first time in several weeks, we did not have the installation of new members, but there are a few coming up. Stayed tuned for that!
Member Candy Austin introduced our guest speaker for the day, Stacy Levine, Director of the local office of The Red Cross. Stacy gave an informative presentation, and many additional questions were asked of her. President Sylvia presented Stacy with a certificate of appreciation and a gift in recognition of her sharing of knowledge with the club.
The club is looking forward to our 104th anniversary as a member club of Civitan International next month. We are Civitan!

Each meeting of the Clarksville Civitan Club sees our members and guests enjoying lots of fellowship, as seen in these photos. There are always joyful surprise meetings of people who know each other from a different place in the community. These encounters renew our awareness that Civitans are not isolated participants in the community, they are community-minded and active all around the community.
Our meeting on June 3rd was almost lost in the busy lives of our members, but we have the photos now and want to share what happened.
Our President for the month is Sylvia Clardy, a past president from 2010-2011 and 2016-2017. Sylvia rang the bell and Immediate Past President and Chaplain Toni Jenkins gave the invocation. Later, Toni presented the election slate for this year's elections.
A donation check was presented to Past President and Director of Merry in God Foundation, Merriel Neal-Bullock. This donation supports a juvenile justice program that Merriel's foundation has put on in the city for 20 years.
Next, we installed another new member, Dr. Gloria Miller. Past Governor and President Bruce Myers conducted the installation with President Sylvia Clardy.
Our guest speaker for the day was JD Lasater from the Full Spectrum Learning Department at the Austin Peay Governors. JD and his associate presented the university's program that supports students at APSU who are on the Autism spectrum. This was a timely and informative presentation that shows us once more that there are many partners with Civitan International in our communities who are working toward the Civitan vision of a world where people of all talents and abilities make the world a better place.
President Sylvia presented our guest with a certificate of appreciation and a gift as the meeting ended.

Clarksville Civitan, a century club of Civitan International, keeps on bringing inclusivity, fellowship and education to every weekly club meeting. The club meeting on May 13th was no exception.
The meeting was called to order by President Merriel Bullock-Neal and she presided over a meeting that included the installation of two more new members, Belinda Martinez and her son, Drak Fernandez. Belinda and Drak were sponsored by President Elect Jasmin Chambers and Past President and Region 6 Member Engagement Chair Bruce Myers performed the installation. Belinda was recently recognized with a Servants Heart Award during our 3rd annual Honoring Our Heroes ceremony for her work in the autism community.
Next, President Merriel recognized member Rebecca Zuercher for her new member recruiting with the Civitan International 10 Member pin. We have had a great recruiting year so far and this award confirms that.
Our guest speaker for the week was Larry Richardson, a local naturalist and artist. Larry provided a presentation on the Cumberland River, mapping its route and providing photos of scenery along the stream. Larry also displayed some of his ail painting that he created from the scenery, fauna and wildlife on the river. We learned so many interesting things about a river we take for granted as we pass by every day.
President Merriel presented Larry with our gifts of appreciation and the meeting was adjourned.

The Clarksville Civitan Club continued celebrating our community and club members during the weekly meeting on May 6th. Presidents Steve Zuercher and Merriel Bullock-Neal passed the gavel with the reading of the Civitan International Creed. President Bullock-Neal presided over the weekly program, including recognition of the first member sponsored for Secretary Doris Davenport.
Our guest speaker for the day was Julia Head, owner of Head Peach Company in Clarksville. Julia shared her insights on agri-tourism and the adventures she encounters as she builds a family farm. The presentation brought forth important points about our local environment, culture, economy, and family life. We were impressed with how this woman, wife, mother, and former school teacher has reformatted her whole life, including her professional life, into a family business that uses all the skills she planned to use as a teacher, and involves everyone in the family.
Join us every Wednesday for another exciting Civitan meeting.
