We are NOT a "business"--though FB is trying to insist we somehow conform to them giving us that label--we are just a club of people who enjoy the hobby of Western Style Square Dancing! It is a fun, wholesome, social activity for the whole family to participate in together. It’s not what you did in PE class years ago—though it is good exercise for mind & body—it is most likely quite different than
you imagine. It is not all country music, & absolutely no little brown jugs allowed! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCKbfunt0E0
Our style of square dancing is taught by a group of Callers/Instructors who have gotten their heads together & formed an association years ago to standardize the various moves they agree will be taught & used WORLDWIDE by all sanctioned “Western Style Square Dance” Clubs. What you learn from us here in Clarksville TN you can take to Germany, England, Japan, Australia… ALL OVER THE WORLD there are square dance clubs dancing the same moves we will teach you here—always done in English—always a wonderfully friendly group of folks! [Especially great for military families to quickly make new friends with each PCS move!]
While we encourage family participation, we do not allow children to be dropped off. It is not a child centered dance studio. [ There are studios in the area teaching Tap, Ballet etc that can be found in the phonebook if you are simply interested in another after school activity for your child] With us, children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Our fees are just $5 per person AND family discounts are available. We are not in this to make any money—just trying to pay bills—our real motivation is to HAVE FUN! The more the merrier! Students learn a few new moves each week while gaining practice in what you’ve learned previous weeks—all the while having fun dancing at the class’s given level... Because the material does build on previous week's lessons, we do need regular weekly attendance once a class is underway. And no new beginners will be able to join after Oct 5th so we may move forward from then on. FREE INTRODUCTORY* DANCE LESSON –1st Visit is FREE –

Registration for the series will be open throughout September but end Oct 5th. Give it a free try & then ask about family discounts if you decide your whole family wants to sign up. Couples & single adults of all ages are welcomed; children must be accompanied by a parent or other adult guardian at all times though & children under 12 must demonstrate a mature enough attention span during that 1st free lesson before they will be accepted for enrollment in the full course. Our style of dancing has NO fancy footwork involved--the stuff done with taps is "Clogging" or AKA "Buck Dancing"--that is not square dancing! Square dancing is somewhat more like marching than it is most other forms of dance. You learn different moves to go with the different commands--much like "left face" or "about face" in marching causes one to turn in the designated direction, the square dance calls send you walking in designated directions too. Difference being, you do also hold hands or forearms with different people in your square while you do the square dance moves. It is complex, but we teach a bit at a time & give you lots of practice until it all becomes 2nd nature to you! I like to compare it to an old (1981) comedy movie "Stripes"--where you start off with Army recruits trying to march but stumbling all over each other something terrible at first... then with LOTS of PRACTICE those same recruits put on an awesome complicated drill without missing a beat at graduation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHcMxOJ5BN4
Square dancing really does become easy once you have the needed practice with the commands... The public is always welcomed to come & watch--free of charge--if you like what you see, you can give us contact info & we will let you know the next time we are getting ready to start a new class. Generally classes start each Fall. SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SQUARE DANCE MONTH! We also do some line dancing during breaks in square dancing & those are taught "on the spot" so visitors are able to participate with the lines at least. COME SEE FOR YOURSELF!
