The 42nd Pennsylvania Envirothon state competition was held on May 19 and 20, 2026 at Camp Mount Luther near Mifflinburg, PA.

High school students from 66 Pennsylvania counties participated in this yearโ€™s event.

The team representing Greene County from Carmichaels Area High School placed THIRD overall with an overall score of 479!

The team had the third highest Oral Presentation score of 96, third highest Soils score of 77, 5th highest Wildlife score of 80, 8th highest Forestry score of 83, an Aquatics score of 80, and a Current Issue score of 63. Each team member received a $500 scholarship and a plaque made from PA hardwoods.

This year marks the twentieth year in a row that the team has placed in the top 10 at the Pennsylvania State Envirothon!

The team placed 1st in the state in 2018 and 2019. In 2019 the team placed third in the world at the NCF-International Envirothon.

The team also placed 2nd in 2006, 2010 and 2025, 3rd in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2023, and 4th in 2011 and 2015.

In 2012 and 2013 the team placed 5th in the State.

In 2024 the team placed 6th.

In 2009 and 2022, the team placed 7th, in 2008 the team placed 8th, and in 2007 and 2021 the team placed 10th in the State.

The 2020 Envirothon competitions were canceled.

**The Team would especially like to thank EQT, Greene County Conservation District, Harry Enstrom Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Rices Landing Town and Country Garden Club, and Carmichaels Area School District for helping to fund this experience!

I sadly have to report the passing of the Daughter of our Chapter namesake and great chapter supporter.

Linda Enstrom Fettig, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Linda Rae Enstrom was born May 16, 1945, the only child of the late Harry F. and Rachel (Neal) Enstrom, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Jefferson- Morgan High School, class of 1963 and earned a bachelorโ€™s degree in 1966 from California University of Pennsylvania, graduating with high honors. She began her teaching career at Upper St. Clair Schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She married Burt Fettig on January 27, 1968, at Hewitt Presbyterian Church in Rices Landing, Pennsylvania. Burt preceded Linda on November 5, 2016.

After marriage they moved to Bloomington, Indiana where she earned her masterโ€™s degree and Burt earned his Ed.D. at Indiana University. Their next move was to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where Burt worked for Central Michigan University and Linda worked as an elementary teacher in the Mt. Pleasant School System. Their last move was to Saginaw, Michigan. Burt worked as a student services administrator at Delta College and Linda taught in the Saginaw Township Community Schools. She retired from Hemmeter Elementary School in 1999 after 34 years of teaching.

Linda was a past president of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region, a past president of Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Charter EQ and a member of the Bluestockings Book Club. She enjoyed golf, reading, and gardening.

Linda and Burt established endowed scholarships at Delta College and with the Community Foundation of Greene County, Pennsylvania.

In keeping with Lindaโ€™s wishes, there will be no visitation or public services.
