It’s a myth that people go through orderly, predictable stages of grief.
Grief does not follow a neatly outlined plan, where you move forward from one stage (such as depression or anger) to the next—and never again struggle with the emotions from an earlier stage.
Here’s what to expect after a loved one’s death. You’ll:
Jump back and forth between different emotions.
Wrestle with many emotions at the same time (sometimes opposing emotions).
Get hit by emotions out of the blue, even months and years later.
So, if you’ve been wondering: “Is what I’m feeling normal—all these crazy emotions?” The answer is yes.
If you’d like to learn more about how to handle the daily emotions of grief, GriefShare has been helping people through grief for over 25 years. And we’d like to come alongside you.
