Honest question: is this happening in our township too? There have been local reports of arbitrary tax increases and insane valuations over minor property upgrades. Maybe our supervisor or a board trustee/member would like to weigh in on what protections they have in place so Campbell township residents aren’t subjected to the same fraud?

Mitch Vexler files criminal complaint with the DOJ claiming homes are falsely appraised to create higher tax revenue for the school districts. What this coul...

Be advised the Campbell Twp board will be discussing a junkyard/blight ordinance again Thursday Sept. 12 at 7pm.

This ordinance will negatively impact the economic viability of families, farmers, and enterprising young people by effectively putting barriers to entry against small businesses or ideas where it is not economically viable to build a building to contain the resources or materials being saved for future use.

This ordinance will be unfairly enforced and primarily target low income and disadvantaged people who do not have the financial resources to bring their property into compliance, or who just want to save/up-cycle “trash” materials for a future project.

- That stack of lumber or pallets you're saving for a future projects can be called junk and you will be fined for storing it outside.

- Those lawn mowers your teenager is salvaging the usable parts to repair or rebuild for sale will be labeled as junk and he will not be able to earn money to save for college.

- The old farm equipment parked out back can now be labeled as junk and the farmer fined for not storing it inside a building.

- The pile of steel you are saving for welding projects will now be classified as junk and you can be fined for having it.

- The bins of copper or aluminum scrap that a family is collecting to earn a little extra money for school supplies will now be labeled as junk and they can be fined for not disposing it.

- The old car or tractors that your grandpa used to own and you hope to restore someday with your grandkids can be labeled as junk.

This ordinance will devastate a neighbor's family business that single handedly kept our post office open (that was slated to be closed) during the recession a few years ago.

This ordinance will eliminate valuable economic opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

Campbell Twp is a rural township and not a big city like Lansing - the township officials should behave accordingly.

Please come to the meeting and remind our township officials who they work for! Thursday September 12 at 7pm.

It appears that the township is up to mischief again. After a respite from politics and waiting until the good citizens dropped their guard against attempts the last time. The blight ordinance is back on the table and actively being discussed.

You lowly citizens better be on your best behavior and take some "pride in ownership" of your properties (because the board wants higher property values for taxes). Otherwise the board will forcibly clean up the stuff they don't like on YOUR property and send YOU the bill - then they'll raise your taxes.

Might be worth calling your favorite township supervisor to voice your opinion of this latest attempt.

Keeping the community informed.

We appreciate our public servants and want to thank them for all the work they do publicly and behind the scenes to keep this community running. If you are a public servant of Campbell Township, we sincerely thank you for your dedication and service to the community.

It is our view that the elected officials work for us and their primary job is to simply manage infrastructure and collect taxes. Their job is NOT to pass ordinances that restrict or control our property rights as citizens. We object to the notion that we need to attend board meetings just to babysit the board members to make sure they aren’t catering to chronic complainers who want to control their neighbors, or special interests who want to drive up property values just so they can resell at a profit.

Many of us already have hectic lives running farms, small businesses, volunteering at our churches and charities, or simply taking care of our families. It is difficult to find extra time to go to the meetings just to hear what the board is doing. It can also be difficult to read through the minutes and ordinances and understand exactly what the board is trying to do - especially when information is poorly published or not clearly written.

The purpose of this page is to keep the community informed about what is going on in Campbell Township, and to make sure that ordinances and regulations represent the citizens of Campbell Township NOT those of outsiders or special interests.
