Those faithful Community Garden volunteers are still at it! Imagine...over a ton of food has been produced to feed our families through the Clarksville Food Pantry! Thank you everyone.

Good afternoon, Gardeners!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered yesterday; a lot was accomplished. Most of the cantaloupe was pulled up; however, we left two vines since they are still producing.

Monday, we split the garden into four zones. Within each zone, soil samples were taken to be sent to Virginia Tech for analysis. The four sample boxes were packaged and mailed yesterday.

To date, we have harvested a total of 2,070 pounds of fresh produce, and yesterday yielded 46 pounds! Not bad with three different varieties of vegetables and fruits left. Tomatoes, cantaloupe, and peppers were delivered to the pantry.

Tuesday, September 22nd we will harvest what is available and pull up some of the stakes that are without tomato plants.

Hello, Fellow Gardeners,

I hope everyone got a chance to relax and enjoy the long Labor Day weekend.

To date we have harvested 2,024 pounds of fresh produce! To the members of the Clarksville Food Pantry, we’re so grateful for the opportunity to contribute fresh produce to the community, we were so touched to receive the lovely thank-you note from you last week.

Between last Wednesday, September 2nd and today, Tuesday, September 8, we picked 96 lbs of tomatoes, cantaloupe, and peppers. We weaved the tomatoes to give them stability, weeded. It was a very productive day. The basil, eggplant and several peppers needed to be pulled then carried off to the convenience center.

Please feel free to come out and play in the dirt! The next 2 garden dates:

• Tuesday, September 22nd @ 8:30 AM (Weather permitting)

The Lake Country Community Garden just posted these pictures of the veggies that were just picked and will be delivered to the Pantry! They are picture perfect and another 37 pounds added to their harvest this summer. Many thanks to the hard-working volunteers.

Reminder for MCPS elementary families!

Open House will be held Tuesday, August 4 at: South Hill Elementary, Chase City Elementary, Clarksville Elementary School, Clarksville, Va, and La Crosse LaCrosse Elementary School and Wednesday, August 5 at Mecklenburg County High School and Mecklenburg County Middle School from noon to 6:00 p.m.

Students attending these schools will receive a backpack filled with their 2026–2027 school supplies during Open House.

Students who are unable to attend will receive their backpack on the first day of school.

Our purpose is to to solicit, store, and distribute supplemental food for adults, children, and especially seniors, who lack an adequate supply, primarily in western Mecklenburg County, Virginia (Clarksville, Boydton, Skipwith, Buffalo Junction, and Nelson.)

And the bounty continues to arrive at the Pantry! Our families are just loving all the fresh veggies and canteloupe. Thanks for your dedicated labor, especially in this summer's heat.

Hello, Gardeners!

Thank you to everyone who came out to help today.

We have harvested 994 pounds of fresh produce! WOW! Only 6 pounds to go to 1,000 lbs!

Between last Wednesday, July 8 and today, Tuesday, July 14, we picked 243 lbs of squash, zucchini, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and peppers. The cantaloupes are doing very well this year! Good size and ripening well.

Some of the tomatoes are starting to ripen. We planted them in different months, in hopes of providing the pantry throughout the summer.

Please feel free to come out and pick vegetables and fruit with us!

Hello, Gardeners!

Yesterday morning was definitely a cooler morning to be in the garden!

Thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help; a lot was accomplished.

🌺Between Friday of last week and Monday this week, we picked 55 lbs of squash and zucchini. We added 17 lbs yesterday, which brings our total to 230 lbs! The plants have plenty of blooms to produce more!

🪲Pest management was performed using DE on the ground and dish soap added to water eliminate the bugs and eggs we could see.

🌻The cantaloupes are growing nicely, should be able to pick in a few weeks!

🍅Most of the tomato plants have buds and flowers!

Our next garden dates will be Thursday, June 11, and Tuesday, June 16 at 8:30 AM, weather permitting. Tomorrow we will be planting cucumbers and sowing green beans. See you there!

Thanks to Averett Baptist Church for serving on the Pantry distribution team on Wednesday and Saturday. The first few days of each month are the busiest, so they worked like troopers! We couldn't accomplish all that we do without volunteers, and we particularly appreciate the twelve churches and organizations that serve in rotation. Averett Baptist and many churches and individuals also generously contribute staple items.
