The Clarksburg History Museum hosted the presentation of the Harrison County Genealogical Society's yearly scholarship award. The winner is Kathryn Raye Southall a student at RCB High School. She was presented a $1,000.00 check toward her future endeavors. Her parents are Richard and Debra Southall. She is planning on attending Fairmont State University and major in computer science. She traced her family lineage back 7 generations to Barnabas McHenry who was born in 1715 near Ballyreagh Castle in Antrim, Ireland.

The 2026 Harrison County Genealogical Society Essay Scholarship winner has been chosen, and the scholarship will be awarded at 11 AM on Saturday, May 9th, at the Clarksburg History Museum. This year the winning Harrison County senior will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help with their continuing education. The Genealogy Essay Contest is open to all Harrison County seniors who plan to continue their education, and this year's winner of the essay contest is RCB student Kathryn S. All HCGS members as well as the public are invited to attend the award ceremony on Saturday.

The 2026 Harrison County Genealogical Society Essay Scholarship is well underway, and winners will be announced after the first week in May. This year the winning Harrison County senior will receive a $1,000. scholarship to help with their continuing education. The Genealogy Essay Contest is open to all Harrison County seniors who plan to continue their education. Applications and guidelines are available at the guidance counselor's office of the local county high schools.
