Think about the small things that brighten your day: a favorite song, a quick prayer, a neighbor waving from across the street.

Joy isn't accidental, but it's made up of the moments we create, the things we nurture, and the things we offer to the people around us. Sometimes that joy comes in the form of a hot meal or a box of food from a food pantry, and other times it comes in the form of a simple act of prayer.

On this National Day of Joy, at The Salvation Army Potomac Division, we’re choosing to add little sparks of joy to our day, and to pass them along to someone who needs a lift.✨

Happy National Day of Joy! 💛

The Salvation Army of Clarksburg welcomes incoming Officers, Lieutenants Noah and Bailey Lind. They come with two children and a dog named Henry. Lieutenant Noah grew up in The Salvation Army as his parents were Salvation Officers, now retired. Lieutenant Bailey came to TSA through The Boys and Girls Club (now know as Red Shield Youth Center). They spent the past 3 years serving in Virginia and look forward to all that West Virginia will offer.

Lieutenants Noah and Bailey Lind are looking forward to learning, doing ministry, and jumping right in where they’re needed.

Their Welcome Sunday will be June 28th at 11:00am. They look forward to the days to come!

Have you felt the joy that comes from giving without expecting anything back?

There’s a special kind of joy that comes from giving with a full heart when no one’s watching, the kind that reminds us we’re part of something bigger than ourselves. It’s the kind of joy that fills your heart long after the moment has passed.

If you’d like to share that joy in our community, you’re welcome to support the work happening in our community. ♥️

School may pause for summer, but learning doesn’t have to. Summer doesn’t need to be a season where kids fall behind. ☀️📉

At The Salvation Army, we want summer to be a season where your children leap forward. And we are committed to this statement!

From Summer Sleepaway Camps for a week-long immersive experience that encourages independence and lasting memories, to youth programs and summer music conservatories, The Salvation Army gives children and teenagers a place to learn, play, explore, and stay rooted in community.

We help young minds stay bright.✨

There’s something admirable about the World Cup ⚽. How is it that one game has the power to bring thousands of people together, cheering with one voice? 📣 Giving creates the same sense of unity, as one act of kindness impacts an entire community and lifts up neighbors in need, regardless of their language or background. That’s something worth cheering! You can support the mission in our community and give in the way that feels right to you. This season, join the team that gives with joy and let your generosity turn it into something that brings real transformation in the lives of our neighbors. https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usa-southern-territory/potomac/

Summer heat doesn’t affect everyone the same way, and extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at risk.

A broken AC, a home without shade, a night without relief can turn a heatwave into a crisis.

That’s why this season matters, and The Salvation Army is stepping in to offer cool spaces, utility bill assistance and support for neighbors who need help staying safe this summer. ☀️

Reach out locally if you need assistance or if you can lend a hand. ✨

🍩 The Salvation Army Lassies stepped onto the front lines of WWI with one mission: bring comfort where it was most needed.

A warm donut became a reminder that someone cared, and that one act of love has rippled through generations.

Today, hundreds of families across our community find comfort, support, and hope through The Salvation Army.

🍩National Donut Day celebrates kindness that still changes lives.

“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:7

At The Salvation Army, we live that out every day, serving families in crisis, feeding neighbors who are hungry, and offering hope to anyone who needs a place to rest and rebuild.

Because love isn’t just something we feel, it’s something we do… together.

More than a century ago, the “Donut Lassies” entered the WWI huts with hands full of flour, sugar, and the honest intention to lift the spirits of the soldiers who were far from home. Against all odds, that small act of kindness made a lasting difference.

On June 7, 1938, The Salvation Army first celebrated National Doughnut Day as a fundraiser during the Great Depression to support families facing hardship. A wonderful act that mirrored and honored the legacy of those courageous women.

Today, at The Salvation Army, we carry this purpose forward each day, meeting local needs with love and compassion through our food pantries 🍽️.

A simple recipe in action.
A lasting impact.

Because from the very beginning, the first ingredient was love.
