ABOUT US

The Soque River Watershed Assocation (SRWA) is a non-profit organization working to protect and restore the Soque River in Northeast Georgia. The Soque River is a major headwater tributary to the Chattahoochee River which serves as the primary drinking water supply for the city of Atlanta. The organization, founded in 1998, is governed by a community-oriented board of directors, and has

two staff members. Primary activities of the Association include: organization of a community watershed partnership; grant management of a Federal 319 project to complete a watershed assessment and draft a watershed protection plan; coordination of a community greenway project; and collaboration with local officials on conservation policy and planning improvements. The Soque River Watershed Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by Internal Revenue Service. The Soque River Watershed Association was proud to support the City of Clarkesville’s Easter Egg Hunt alongside the Tallulah Falls Fly Fishing Club.

A great turnout, beautiful day, and wonderful to see families gathered along the Greenway enjoying time together. Community partnerships like this help make events like these possible.

The Soque River is more than a beautiful stretch of water flowing through Clarkesville — it’s a vital lifeline for our community, our drinking water, our wildlife, and future generations. Protecting the Soque means preserving the history, health, and heart of Habersham County.

When we care for the river, we care for our neighbors, our children, and the place we call home. 💙🌿

Did you know the City of Clarkesville gets its drinking water straight from the Soque River? 💧

SRWA plays a direct role in protecting the river’s health: our regular water-quality monitoring program collects weekly samples at multiple sites along the Soque and tests for indicators like E. coli and other contaminants, turbidity, conductivity, and more.

Clean water is essential for the health of our ecosystems, communities, and future generations. The Soque River supports diverse wildlife, recreational activities, and is a vital resource for local residents. Monitoring water quality helps identify potential pollution sources, track changes over time, and guide restoration and protection efforts so the river remains safe and thriving. 🌿💙

If you care about clean water, please consider supporting SRWA — volunteer, spread the word, or help in any way you can.
