ABOUT US

The Soque River Watershed Assocation (SRWA) is a non-profit organization working to protect and restore the Soque River in Northeast Georgia. The Soque River is a major headwater tributary to the Chattahoochee River which serves as the primary drinking water supply for the city of Atlanta. The organization, founded in 1998, is governed by a community-oriented board of directors, and has

two staff members. Primary activities of the Association include: organization of a community watershed partnership; grant management of a Federal 319 project to complete a watershed assessment and draft a watershed protection plan; coordination of a community greenway project; and collaboration with local officials on conservation policy and planning improvements. The Soque River Watershed Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by Internal Revenue Service. For more information on becoming a member of or making a donation to SRWA, please visit the support SRWA pages.

💧 RIVER FACT WEDNESDAY 💧

The Soque River may flow for only about 30 miles, but its impact reaches far beyond Habersham County!

The Soque is the only river in Georgia that begins and ends entirely within one county—our own Habersham County. It is also an important headwater tributary of the Chattahoochee River, connecting the water we protect locally to communities throughout Georgia.

Every action within our watershed matters. By protecting the Soque, we help preserve clean water, wildlife habitats and this beautiful natural resource for generations to come. 🌿

Protecting the Soque starts with all of us! 💙

One of the many reasons we love Habersham County? The Soque River. 💙🌿

We were honored to see the Soque River Watershed Association recognized as one of the “100 Reasons I Love Habersham County.” It’s a reminder that our river is so much more than beautiful scenery—it’s the lifeblood of our community, supporting wildlife, recreation, local businesses, and generations of memories.

Every cleanup, every volunteer, every conservation effort helps preserve this incredible natural treasure for those who will enjoy it after us.

Thank you to everyone who believes that protecting the Soque River is one of the best ways to love Habersham County. Together, we’re making a lasting difference.
