Three years ago, the Raymond Redwing Days Committee looked around at all the kids running through the community and realized there were not enough spaces or activities created with them in mind. They wanted to make a difference.
The committee began gathering ideas and talking with community members about what Raymond needed next. Through those conversations, one practical need became clear: a permanent public bathroom at the park.
It may not be the flashiest project, but it is an important step toward making the park a better place for kids, families, community events, birthday parties, reunions, and everyday gatherings.
The committee brought the idea to the City of Raymond and received permission to move forward. Since then, Redwing Days has been the driving force behind the project, from planning and fundraising to finding contractors and working through all the details that come with turning an idea into a finished building. Once complete, the bathroom will be gifted to the City of Raymond for the entire community to use.
That sounds fairly simple written out, but this project has been three years in the making. Community projects take time. There are plans to develop, funds to raise, connections to make, and plenty of moments when someone has to ask, “Okay, what comes next?”

For the Raymond bathroom, that has included serving as a fiscal sponsor, connecting the committee with contractors and funding opportunities, helping identify next steps, and sharing fundraising ideas that have worked in other communities.
