Another season ending shout out...this time to our grooming crew. Lee, Gary, and Luke spent many hours in the machines this year making the trails as good as we can. Working a full day and then hopping in a machine at 5 pm for a 5 or 6 hour ride in the groomer isn't always fun or convenient. We appreciate their commitment to the club. Thanks guys!

Reflecting on our season and wanted to give a huge shout out to the ATV Club for all the work they did on Burger King trail. Anybody that rode it this season had to notice it was perfectly smooth and a pleasure to ride. We were able to groom it early and often and the snow firmed up great and was still holding up long after the rest of our trails went away.

They also restored the old trail that ran in the woods parallel to Daniel's Field. That was also a pleasure to ride as a nice alternative to the field which has a few dodgy spots.

Anyway, if you know a member of the ATV Club, tell them thanks for making a key part of our shared trail system awesome. That stuff doesn't happen by accident. They invested a lot of money to get it done.

If the two clubs can keep working together in trail repairs and maintenance it will help us keep the trails in good shape for all riders to enjoy.

TRAILS ARE CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

That's all folks! It was good while it lasted. We hope everybody got a chance to experience some local riding this year. It was the best season we've had in several years. Many thanks to our grooming crew Lee, Gary, and Luke for putting in nearly 150 hours to make our trails as good as they could be.

We will have club meetings in March and April to discuss off-season work plans. In the next few weeks we will need to pull trail signs. There is always plenty to do--trail trimming, bridge building, etc. If you are interested in helping let us know.

Thanks for a fun and safe season and thanks to our landowners for making it all possible.

We'll see what happens with the snow tonight and keep you all posted on what we decide to do. We could very well be trying to groom tomorrow night and closing gates on Sunday! What a crazy stretch of weather we are having.

We might be able to squeeze another day or two of riding out of this. If you go out, please send us feedback on the trails. We assume BK north to Vets Park to Skyline will still be decent, and I would also assume heading to Unity would still be decent.

We'll be keeping a close eye on things because with the temps, the sun, and the rain, the trails will go away quickly and we need to make sure we don't tear up landowners' property.

Until then...ride right and enjoy it while it lasts!

Trail Update!

Rode the Vets Park trail to BK to get fuel, then rail trail to Satterlee/Skyline/Whitewater/Fitch Reservoir.

Here's the status:
BK: Excellent.
Vets Park: Very thin but still rideable.
Fitch Reservoir: Excellent
Whitewater Reservoir: Excellent (bumpy spots along WW Brook as you approach Cornish junction).
Skyline: Excellent.
Satterlee: Some bumps but overall still really good.
Rail Trail: Still very good north of Kelleyville. As you approach Claremont there are several large dirt spots. One is about 273' long. A couple others are about 121' feet long. Still frozen and some you can skirt around the edge a bit. But honestly...it's not great and will go away soon.
Washington Street: Surprisingly good still.

Recommendation: Avoid the rail trail heading towards Newport. For now, you can trailer to BK and ride north no problem. I imagine you can also ride over Arrowhead towards Unity although I have not personally done that loop this week. If anybody has and can report on the conditions, please let us know.

Also have not ridden West Claremont Loop since Sunday. It was still good then but not sure about now.

Partial trail report.

Rode Fitch Reservoir to Whitewater Reservoir to Skyline and Rail Trail all the way to Newport Rec Center and back k to parking lot near Home Depot.

Bottom line. The trails are really good with the odd bumpy spot here and there in all the usual locations such as Whitewater Brook and Satterlee Road. Skyline is excellent. The rail trail from Protectworth to Newport is excellent.

A few dirt spots are showing on the rail trail on the Claremont side but the ground is still frozen. It won't hold up for long so use caution.

You can still navigate these spots if you go on the edge and go slow. By way of comparison, these spots are certainly no worse than the boat landing parking lot but the rail trail is very thin and with these bare spots showing it won't last long.

To put it another way, Nancy Pelosi is buying stock in companies that make carbides.

I also rode a couple miles up into the Grantham system on Corridor 5 and their snow looks pretty good. If you can go north it should be good. Crescent Lake trails are still really good too if you can get south.

We probably have about a week left around here and that's if we survive Friday and Saturday warmup. It gets cold again after that for a few days but starting on Saturday the 7th temps are near 50 for 4-5 days in a row.

We had a good month. Enjoy the next couple of days if you can.
