Last week's 2nd Annual BEE United: Alumni and Industry Engagement Day was a success! 🤩

Members of the KGI community came together to celebrate professional collaboration, mentorship, and the leadership of our alumni.

Current students received resume feedback during Resumania, our career services event, while we heard from our Distinguished Alumni Award recipients about their experiences at KGI and the impact those experiences have had on their careers. We wrapped up the day with an outstanding keynote from Bassil Dahiyat, president, CEO, co-founder, and director at Xencor, and an engaging career panel.

Congratulations to our Distinguished Alumni Award recipients: Richard Cale '21, Stephen Chang '08, Jenny Sheng '09, Jennifer Wong '08, and Erin White '12, '13! It was great to also have two winners from the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Awards in attendance: Hutch Humphreys '03 and Samet Yildirim '13.

KGI in the Bay 2026 was a success!💥
Last Thursday, so many dedicated alumni, partners, and friends gathered in South San Francisco to celebrate our KGI community.

President Mohamed Abousalem attended the event, shared updates on KGI programs, and celebrated our more than 2,000 alumni. We were especially pleased to have several key leaders with us, including Adam Miller, Chair of the ABCAB Board; Samet Yildirim, recipient of the Professional Achievement Distinguished Alumni Award in 2025; Daniel Yeung from the Alumni Advisory Council; and Professor Saurav Datta.

A special thank you to Michael Standlee of Triple Point Capital and Loren Martin for joining the conversation and sharing their thoughts on emerging opportunities across biotech startups and how KGI is preparing to launch an exciting new entrepreneurship startup competition this upcoming academic year. We are returning to South San Francisco to reconnect, catch up with classmates, and explore the latest trends and opportunities in the industry. It is always a special evening, and we are especially glad to welcome our local alumni, industry partners, and KGI students who are working in summer internships across the region.

AI is transforming education and the future of work.

Earlier today, the KGI community came together for the AI in Education Forum, moving beyond the big picture to real-world application. Keynote speaker Samir Chatterjee, founding director of IDEA Labs and Fletcher Jones Chair at Claremont Graduate University, shared how AI is reshaping teaching, learning, and professional practice.

Our Beaker Bee, Amir Golshani '26, continued the conversation with insights from KGI MBS alumni William Raasch ’09, founder & CEO of WeHealth, and Hans Smith ’09, general counsel & head of intellectual property at Xilis, Inc., who reflected on how the AI skills they developed after KGI have been essential to their career success.

The conversation explored ethical innovation, practical tools, and how KGI is empowering its community to lead responsibly in an AI-driven world.
