Our winner for the Ava and Jackson Passow scholarship from Fort Dodge Senior High is Aneliese Schuur. Aneliese is the daughter of Keenan and Lydia Schuur of Fort Dodge. She falls into our category of being a rare disease recipient of the scholarship.
Aneliese was born with gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a congenital birth defect which cases belly button to not fully form. She spent 4 weeks of her life in a neo-natal intensive care unit because of it. Because gastroschisis is a rare disease, her health outcomes were not certain. While her case isn’t as severe as others, she does have occasional issues with her digestive system.
Aneliese plans to attend Iowa Central to get her associates degree then attend Iowa State university to become a veterinarian. After college, she plans to open a clinic in Fort Dodge and be an on-call veterinarian. She is one of the faces of the project that you have seen on here. She is a cousin to Ava and Jackson Passow as well.
