🇺🇸 Armed Forces Day

Today we honor the men and women currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Armed Forces Day is a time to recognize the dedication, commitment, and daily service of those who are actively protecting and supporting our nation. Their work continues a long legacy of service that connects generations.

At Oregon Military Museum Project, we are proud to preserve the stories of those who have served; and those who continue to serve today.

To all who are currently serving: thank you.

🕊️ Children of Fallen Patriots Day

Today we honor the children of service members who gave their lives in defense of our country.

Children of Fallen Patriots Day is a time to recognize the strength and resilience of those who carry forward the legacy of a parent they lost too soon. Their stories are an important part of our nation’s history. Reminders of the lasting impact of service and sacrifice.

At Oregon Military Museum Project, we are committed to preserving these stories and honoring not only those who served, but the families whose lives are forever shaped by that service.

We take a moment today to remember, to honor, and to recognize the legacy carried by the next generation.

📜 On This Day in History

On May 11, 1942, Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the creation of the Air Medal through Executive Order 9158.

The Air Medal was established to recognize those who distinguished themselves by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. It honored service members across the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard whose skill, courage, and dedication took them into the skies during a pivotal time in history.

Moments like this reflect how acts of service are recognized, not just for the mission, but for the commitment and courage behind it.

💜 Military Spouse Appreciation Day

Today we recognize the strength, resilience, and dedication of military spouses.

Military spouses serve in ways that often go unseen; through constant change, long separations, and the everyday challenges that come with supporting a life of service. They are the steady foundation behind those who wear the uniform.

At Oregon Military Museum Project, we honor not only those who serve, but the families who stand beside them.

To all military spouses: Thank you for your sacrifice, your support, and your strength!

🇺🇸 Military Appreciation Month & Military Caregiver Month

May is Military Appreciation Month; a time to honor and recognize the contributions, sacrifices, and service of members of the armed forces, past and present.

It is also Month of the Military Caregiver, recognizing the family members, loved ones, and caregivers who provide ongoing support to those who have served.

Service is not carried by one person alone. Behind every service member is a network of support: families, caregivers, and communities who share in the journey.

At Oregon Military Museum Project, we are committed to preserving and sharing these stories; because honoring service means recognizing everyone who plays a part in it.
