Oregon Military Museum Project

The Oregon Military Museum Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which will complete the construction of the Oregon Military Museum.

The Oregon Military Museum Project is organized to carry out the following activities; to complete the construction and exhibits and prepare future operations of the Oregon Military Museum, including with public and private partners; to build and nurture essential relationships with business and community leaders, companies and corporations in the Pacific Northwest (and the wider region) to raise funds necessary to complete construction of the Oregon Military Museum.

🇺🇸 September 2, 1945 — World War II Formally Ends

On this day 81 years ago, Japan formally signed the surrender documents aboard the USS Missouri, officially bringing World War II to an end.

For thousands of Oregon service members, it meant something they had waited years for: the journey home could finally begin.

For American POWs, liberation brought another journey. Many returned stateside for the first time in years, receiving medical care and beginning the long process of returning to life at home.

Behind the history-changing events of September 2 were millions of individual stories—of service, sacrifice, survival, and reunion.

Today, we remember them.

This month, we honor Captain Edward Christopher Allworth, an Oregon Medal of Honor recipient whose extraordinary courage during World War I earned him our nation's highest military decoration.

The Oregon Military Museum Project's Hall of Valor recognizes Oregonians who demonstrated exceptional bravery in service to our country. Their stories remind us that behind every medal is a person whose courage changed lives and shaped history.

🌳 Outdoor Park Fun Fact

Think the museum experience ends at the front door? Think again!

One of the highlights of the Oregon Military Museum's Historic Park is the Quartermaster Storehouse, where you can discover how military supplies made it from warehouses to the front lines.

Step inside a full-size Sibley tent, see how soldiers lived in the field, and even try your hand at loading a supply wagon. It's a fun, interactive way to experience an often-overlooked part of military history—logistics!

It's just one more reason to explore both the museum and the Historic Park during your visit.
