This Pride Month, we celebrate the joy, resilience, and beauty of LGBTQIA+ communities.

In "The Q***r Beatitudes," Tim Atkins (also known as Sister Sweet Suffering Tea of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) offers this blessing:

"Blessed are we, the whole q***r family,
for love is our birthright, and joy is our inheritance."

May we continue building a world where every person can live, love, and flourish as their full self. 🌈

What is apartheid ? Let's welcome Sonja Coster this Sunday June 7 @ 10:30, speaking and relating the impact of Apartheid on a nation and the world.

What is apartheid ? Sonja will discuss the concept of Apartheid and the injustice it caused in South Africa. Who were two people that forgot about titles and race and had the courage and conviction to abandon apartheid ? Sonja will discuss some facts and give examples of poems and prose to demonstrate the impact of Apartheid while also looking at South Africa currently.

Sonja Coster was born and raised in South Africa and was/is an activist against Apartheid. An educator all her life, she had a Drama Studio and a one woman show for 24 years in South Africa and was the chair lady for the Guild of Speech and Drama teachers for many years.
She moved to Wisconsin in 1995 where she was the Vice President for programs at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston and at the Milwaukee YMCA. She is a lay preacher in the Methodist Church serving in many different denominations and engages in speaking opportunities. Retiring in 2024 Sonja moved to Ocala Florida. She is married and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren.

It has never been easy to be a person of progressive faith, especially in a time when Christian Nationalist ideas are so pervasive and religious practice can be manipulated in service to power and greed. Even in these painful times, let us remain steadfast in our Unitarian Universalist identity, confident in our knowing that our covenantal faith and practices, grounded in shared values, offer so much of what is needed to minister to this beautiful and struggling world.

As a people of a freely chosen faith centered on love, what spiritual teachings keep us grounded in the work? What comforts us in times of struggle? What moves us to make room for others’ perspectives and experiences in our own understandings of life? Treasure those resources. Celebrate them for the spiritual development that they offer. Above all else, share them with each other, for we become more than we were when we journey together.

This Sunday, the 31st. we are drumming ! Please join us 10:30 at NCUU for our Congregational Drum Circle presented by Vanessa Fuller-Brown. Everyone is welcome !

There will be no sermon this Sunday. The presentation will be about drumming so we may just focus on the spirit and rhythm of drumming.

Vanessa will introduce, facilitate and explain the science, the health benefits of drumming, and the advantage of drumming in a group. The facilitated drum circle will introduce the spirit of drumming and rhythm as an instrument for well-being, resilience, empowerment, celebration and community building.

Vanessa Fuller-Brown is a lifelong student, educator, and practitioner of the Wisdom Traditions, with personal practice, ministry and services dedicated to transformation through the sacred arts and sciences. A professional fine artist, visionary and social artist, she is a minister of sound, certified drum facilitator and sound healing practitioner. Vanessa integrates science, spirit and cultural heritage into ‘creation’ curriculums, pioneering experiential arts programs that gather, transform and strengthen communities of all ages.
