Recently I was asked by a friend" So you are a hero??" I was somewhat taken back by the question as I never saw myself at that. I asked" Where did that come from ?" It then occurred to me that that term gets thrown around a lot these days. For Most ,deservedly so . So I thought about the times I was awarded such status . All for acts done spur of the moment ..What anyone would do . The consequences and rewards were not foreseen. Others saw and praised it so now I was a hero . Most occurrences were simple acts of fate or as a colleague said "A God thing" . Now I would like you to look for a moment beyond the uniforms and badges that deserve our admiration and think what makes our world tick. If you listen between the tick and the toc YOU WILL HEAR SMALL CONVERSATIONS IN THAT SPACE...that tell us where real courage lies . It lies with the parent or parents who go to work each day to feed their kids pay their bill ..support our countries demands. Day in day out 24/7 to make something better for their kids than they had for themselves . That my friend is real courage those people are the real heroes . But let me diverge for the moment and talk about the "Other America" where Freedom's light does not burn as bright. There are right at this minute kids..children really whose lives can be altered ..saved if you will who have no one to take their part as fate prepares to take an ill fate . Innocents thrown a cast into the torments of Prostitution, Pornographer Pushers and Pedos. The Four Horseman of the "Other America". These kids need heroes . All this begs the question "Who among you will step forward to help?" There are people across the country who will read this. Imagine two people in every state trained in missing child issues united in a cause. Am I reinventing the wheel?
sort of but when the old wheel is breaking time to lend a hand fixing it. Help us if you can. VOLUNTEER !

Some thirty years ago I remember a class I took with an FBI agent now deceased . We were talking about what seemed to me to be then an accounted for 57, 000 missing kids across the country. He said "Greg ..how can that be true? That doesn't make sense that there could be 57 thousand or more children missing..for all we know lying dead along American highways . It can not add up. Think about it That number is size of an average American town. If that were so it would be in every newspaper in the land and it isn't. Or was it? We discussed for some time and there was no agreement .
I read Paul's assessment missing children reports which I found quite interesting .I must take minor umbrage with the numbers though. While I believe them accurate remember the other America that gets side stepped by politicians and others who should care but do not. An infinite number of runways , throw a way or LIM children (Lost, injured otherwise missing children ) that those numbers may not cover A fertile number for the Trafficking thugs to garnish.Look at the numbers in Paul's report . As he said imagine these numbers being the population of an entire town going missing .Put that into Perspective. Makes Epstien look like a piker . WHERE ARE THE MEDIA?? NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC DID A PIECE ON TRAFFICKING ON YOU TUBE CALLED PIMPS . Yup the world is tough on kids.

Next year I turn 80 ..I have worked Missing Child cases since 1988. Before that I worked with kids at risk since at least 1968 . Before all that I was one of those kids . I worked Juvenile Halls . Domestic Peace Corps..Prisons ,Patrol and limited intell roles over the years. So what does it all mean? What have I learned ? What might I share ? Well as you might guess the world is hard on un championed kids . So much has happened and not much has changed. The victims names? What were their names . Sure the names change but the stencil...patterns that produce them never do or they get worse as society widens it views on such matters. Cruelty has its own results .It, like Sin is like a crouching hungry beast seeking to devour all that fall in its grasp . That is where we should come in to uplift kids caught in circumstance they never chose . That is the choice set before us.
Many are called but few are chosen. It is a tale of our time that those who say they will help children oft times use them as pawns to further their personal standing among the public for personal gain. Beware the Grey suited grafters who give us the choice between Cancer or Polio. Some who read this might be offended but you know who you are. To be of true help to children is the greatest blessing that has come my way. Take time to listen to that child who says"I hurt ! " before it becomes the battle cry of the abandoned 17 year old who brags "I hurt !" to the bane of the public. All of this really is not the job of Law enforcement or Social service pundits . It begins with me and you.

Numbers

Let's look at a number. 323,767. It's a big number, not a huge number. Now let's break that number down. 29,980 a month, 887 per day, 37 per hour, and .61 per hour. Or we can compare it to a US city.
Lexington Kentucky population of 322,570. The 59th largest city in the US. Now how about the average home price in the US $502,700. So our number is less than the average home price.
SO what does our number mean. To many of us it is a very significant number and it should be to EVERYONE. It is the number of Juvenile missing persons reported to NCIC in 2025. NCIC is the National Crime Information Center.
Now does this make that number a huge number? We say yes. If the entire population of Lexington would all go missing would that make the news? Would it be considered a National Emergency? Would congress have hearings? Would the Federal government start an Investigation?
If you answer yes to all of these questions is yes, then ask why it is not being done now?
Should our children be just as important? Or could it be that politicians look at the issue as not important, because after all they are to young to vote.

ALABAMA MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR KIDNAPPING AND R**E OF 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL CONCEALED BEHIND BASEMENT WALL

A 57-year-old Alabama man has been sentenced to life in prison following a harrowing kidnapping and s*xual abuse case that shocked Blount County.

Here is what we know about the case and sentencing:

The Disappearance: On March 10, 2024, a family reported their 10-year-old daughter missing, triggering a multi-agency search.

The Relationship: The victim testified that she knew the offender, Johnny Chandler, through her stepfather and that Chandler had a grandfather-like relationship with her family while buying her gifts like a cell phone.

The Secret Hiding Spot: When law enforcement tracked the victim's cell phone to Chandler’s home, Chandler told her to hide inside a concealed hole in the basement stairwell. She was missed during the initial search, but a subsequent search warrant uncovered the hidden space behind a space heater, which contained bedding and a stuffed animal.

The Conviction: In April, Chandler was convicted of first-degree r**e, first-degree kidnapping, two counts of s*xual abuse of a child under 12, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and obstructing governmental operations.

The Sentence: District Attorney Pamela Casey stated of the life sentence handed down on July 14, “It’s my desire that he die in prison. He should never have access to other children."

Ongoing Investigations: Detectives investigating the case also discovered evidence indicating Chandler was allegedly involved in another child trafficking and s*x crimes case, and he is facing additional charges.

Upside Down????

Do crimes against children mean anything any more? The norm has become light sentences or just probation, pardons and excuses.
He or she is really a good person, they didn't mean it, its part of their culture and of course it's not their fault. Really have we let children down that bad. And I am not just talking about this country it is becoming a world wide wave. Governmental and institutional blindness is across the world.

In a report from the US Department of Justice titled Children Exposed to Violence

A study of a national sample of American children found that over the past year 60 percent were exposed to violence, crime, or abuse in their homes, schools, and communities. Almost 40 percent of American children were direct victims of 2 or more violent acts, and 1 in 10 were victims of violence 5 or more times. Children are more likely to be exposed to violence and crime than adults. Almost 1 in 10 American children saw one family member assault another family member, and more than 25 percent had been exposed to family violence during their life (Finkelhor et al., 2009).

Are we growing numb, with the internet we see more of these crimes now. On the other hand the abusers have found the internet to be a much easier place to groom and prey upon the children. As adults we need to be more vocal and call for prosecutors, judges, and elected to be held accountable. These are the people who make the decisions on the perpetrators of these crimes The same people who come election time are more then glad to brag about everything they have done. How often do you hear them mention the children.
This Year take the time to ask these question and see if they have the proof to back up these brags....

The following is tough to read but it gives insight on how offenders can control children that they prey upon. The purpose of this is to present how different offenders use different means to gain trust and manipulate children.

The following is from Eric Hickey's book Serial Murders and Their Victims.

Wooden (1984) outlines a variety of child lures used by offenders, including the appeal to a child's ego by telling him or her that he or she is to be in a beauty contest or a television commercial. Some offenders tell the child an emergency has occurred and they have come to es**rt the child home immediately. Wayne Williams (involved in the Atlanta child murders) was known to have posted employment advertisements for you men throughout the area in which he resided. In the case of Ted Bundy and others like him similar themes are used but in a more sophisticated manner. Wearing a cast to evoke sympathy or displaying fictitious business cards initially alleviates fears of dealing with a stranger. Offenders who have become adept at manipulating can exert complete control over others, especially children. The following tragic story illustrate how devastating the control that some offenders have over their victims can be.

A Child Killer's Story*
I remember it was late fall and I was living in T_____, Arizona, on the run from the law in Montana. At 26 I had already committed several violent crimes and was basically out of control. Deep into depression and frustrated I found my self walking across a field about 4:00 p.m. On cold, dreary day. I thought I was alone when I noticed two girls also walking across the field. Immediately I knew I was going to kill them. Moving in their direction I began to speak to them in a friendly voice. They said they were on their way to play badminton. Both were 11 years of age but one looked physically more mature than the other. It was really very easy, and I was so persuasive, the girls did not even hesitate when I suggested we go to a secluded area. They were such trusting children.
