Did you know the CSU Fee Waiver isn't a one-time benefit? 🎓💚

Eligible Unit 4 employees can use it year after year for their own education or transfer it to an eligible family member. It covers up to six units per term at any CSU campus, and as long as you remain eligible, the benefit doesn't simply run out. Over the course of a CSU career, those savings can really add up. 📚

And the education benefits don't stop there. Earn a master's degree or doctorate and eligible Unit 4 employees can receive an Educational Achievement Stipend. In other words, that's actual money paid to you for earning your degree. 💰

Even better, the degree doesn't have to come from the CSU, and if you earn both a master's and a doctorate, you can qualify for a payment for each.

APC members bring their commitment to supporting people into both their work with students and their union membership.

This month we are featuring Maico M. Moreno from San Diego.

As an Accessible Technology Assistant Coordinator, Maico supports students through Student Disability Services at San Diego State University.

“My work reminds me that empathy and human connection matter. I joined APC to bring those values to advocacy for both students and fellow professionals.”
“I’m the Accessible Technology Assistant Coordinator with Student Disability Services at San Diego State University, and one of the things I value most about my work is the human connection behind it.

I work with students who may be navigating barriers that aren’t always obvious to others. That has taught me how important it is to listen, lead with empathy, and remember that there’s always a person behind the process, policy, or technology.

That’s also a big part of why being a member of the Academic Professionals of California matters to me. The people who spend their careers supporting students need support, community, and a voice too. I appreciate being connected with colleagues across the California State University system who understand that work and the responsibility that comes with it.

At the end of the day, both my work and my union membership come back to the same idea for me: people supporting people. That human element is what makes the work meaningful.” 💚

“Stewards are really important at the campus level.”

Because stewards are directly connected to members on their campuses, they can provide guidance on specific contract articles, help with workplace or management issues, and answer questions about the work environment. 📄

Just as importantly, stewards help members better understand their rights and provide advocacy when workplace concerns arise. ✊

🚨 TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED! 🚨

APC has reached a tentative agreement with the CSU that delivers more than 8% in ongoing salary increases within the next nine months — plus a $3,325 one-time payment for eligible Unit 4 employees! 💰

Here’s what’s included:

💵 4% General Salary Increase
Effective July 1, 2026 — retroactive for eligible employees

📈 Another 4% General Salary Increase
Effective July 1, 2027 — with no state-budget contingency

➡️ Because the second increase compounds on the first, that means approximately an 8.16% increase in base salary by July 2027.

💰 $3,325 One-Time Payment
For eligible employees following ratification. Part-time employees will receive a prorated payment.

📄 Contract Extended Through June 30, 2028

🅿️ No parking fee increase for 2025–26, with increases limited to no more than $2/month in each of the following two years.

But we’re not done yet.

The APC Bargaining Team recommends a YES vote.

APC Council is underway! 💚

Today and tomorrow, APC leaders and chapter stewards from across the CSU are coming together for our October Council meeting.

Council is an important part of how APC stays connected across our campuses. It gives chapter representatives the opportunity to share what members are experiencing, discuss issues affecting Unit 4 employees, and help shape the work and priorities of our union. ✊

Sick leave is more than time off when you're sick. 💚

Unit 4 employees can use paid sick leave for their own illness, injury, or medical appointments, as well as to care for a qualifying family member.

Under Article 19 of the APC contract, full-time employees earn eight hours of paid sick leave for each qualifying pay period, and there is no maximum on how much sick leave you can accrue. 🩺

That means unused sick leave can continue building over time, giving you paid time off when you need it without losing income.

Meet APC member JoEllen P. Myslik from Maritime/Cal Poly SLO Campus. 💚

JoEllen joined APC when she was new to campus as a way to connect with colleagues, and more than 13 years later, the camaraderie and collective voice are what keep her involved.

As a Community Engagement Program Specialist with the Community Engaged Learning Center, JoEllen helps support connections between the campus and the broader community.

Her experience is also a great reminder that joining APC can be a way to build relationships with colleagues and become part of a community that extends beyond your own department and campus. ✊
