Hey Cohutta Wilderness Trail Warriors!

In July, we made great progress clearing the Beech Bottom Trail—but Jack’s River is still playing hard to get! There are a few more downed trees and limbs standing between us and a fully open trail, and we need your help to finish the job.

Join CDTV on Saturday, August 2nd at 9:00 AM

📍 Beech Bottom Trailhead
We’ll hike in together with crosscut saws, handsaws, and loppers to take care of the final obstacles. Expect 4–5 miles of moderate hiking, and thankfully, Beech Bottom’s shady canopy should help keep that summer sun at bay. ☀️🌳

Whether you’re a seasoned sawyer or just love getting outside and giving back, this is a great way to spend your Saturday!

Let’s get this trail ready for hikers and campers to enjoy. Hope to see you out there!

Happy trails,

Small but mighty! This past Saturday, our volunteer team tackled several large downed trees along the northern end of Hickory Creek Trail. It was a beautiful May Day…until the rain came. 😃

The mountain laurels were in full bloom, lining the trail with color.

Join us for the next trail-clearing adventure on June 7th!
Team Conasuaga (aka Cohutta Wilderness Trail Volunteers on Meetup) would love to have you with us!

See you out there!

Join Us for Trail Work on Hickory Creek — May 3, 2025
Spring is in full bloom in the Cohutta Mountains — and so are the downed trees! Thanks to 18 hard-working volunteers in April, we made a big dent in clearing Hickory Creek Trail — but there’s still more to do.

Come lend a hand with the Cohutta Wilderness Trail Volunteers (C.W.T.V.) on Saturday, May 3, 2025. We’ll meet at 9:00 AM at the Rice Camp Trailhead and head down Hickory Creek Trail to clear blowdowns and limbs using crosscut saws, hand saws, and loppers. Expect a moderate hike of 4 to 5 miles round trip.

Cohutta Wilderness Trail Volunteers: Trailclearing Hickory Creek Trail - April 5, 2025

Ready to get outside this spring, enjoy Cohutta in early bloom, and do some great volunteer work? Join us the first Saturday in April as we work to clear Hickory Creek Trail, which has been walloped by the winter storms and experience a lot of fallen trees. Please meet CDTV at the Rice Camp Trailhead, at 9:00 am on April 5, 2025, where we’ll head down the Hickory Creek Trail to tackle trees and limbs on the trail with cross-cut and hand saws, along with loppers. Plan on up to 4 or 5 miles of moderate hiking. For more information and to volunteer, please see our Meetup site:

Join Us for Trail Clearing on East Cowpen - February 1, 2025!

It seems like every time we think East Cowpen Trail is clear, nature surprises us with more fallen trees! But what better time to tackle the work than during the winter months, when this trail offers stunning views of the wilderness just two to three miles in from the trailhead?

We’d love for you to join us on Saturday, February 1, 2025, for a day of cross-cutting and limbing along the East Cowpen Trail. Here are the details:
• Meeting Point: Rice Camp Trailhead
• Time: 9:00 AM
• What to Expect: We’ll hike up to 6-7 miles of moderate terrain, using cross-cut and hand saws, as well as loppers, to clear trees and limbs from the trail.

This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the trail while contributing to its upkeep for all to enjoy. Your efforts make a huge difference, and we couldn’t do this without our amazing volunteers.
