Yesterday around 2:00 pm EST, BTFD1’s A-Shift was dispatched to US-206 for a brush fire. Our station’s Brush Truck was requested to assist in extinguishing a brush fire caused by downed power lines from the weather. NFPA defines a brush fire (aka Wildland Fire) as an unplanned and uncontrolled fire burning in vegetative fuel, including structures and other improvements. Crews from Bordentown, Chesterfield, and Mansfield successfully contained, confined, and extinguish the fire prior to spreading to nearby structures. Great job to all involved!

Yesterday the A Shift Career Staff performed Drafting Operations training at Bordentown Beach. Drafting is using suction or a vacuum generated by the pump in the fire truck to obtain water from a static water source such as lakes, ponds, the ocean, portable water pools, even swimming pools and more. Drafting is typically used when a dynamic water source such as a fire hydrant is unavailable or out of service, allowing firefighters to establish a water supply to extinguish fires.

A day filled with training!

Today two firefighters successfully completed the driving obstacle course required to become a qualified driver. In addition to this, they also have to successfully log a set amount of hours driving and pumping on each apparatus.

B Shift also completed our weekly training, which went over different ways to gain access to a locked vehicle.

Also… GO BIRDS! 🦅 💚
