"I was surrounded by friends....October 7, three years ago, changed my life forever. This event was deeply meaningful to me." —participant, Center for Holocaust Survivors and Russian Jewish Cultural Center memorial for October 7

We came together to mark the third anniversary of October 7. Our speakers, Holocaust survivors and members of the second generation, each chose to share the story of a former hostage, highlighting not only the hardships but also their courage, resilience, and determination to rebuild their lives after captivity.

Through these stories, we honored the hostages and reaffirmed our commitment to preserving memory and supporting one another.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this moving commemoration. Together, we remember, we honor, and we keep these stories alive.

We all deserve digital equity.

Across the country, older adults are struggling as they attempt to navigate telehealth appointments. Parents without affordable home internet options are seeing their children fall behind in school. Adult job seekers without digital skills are having difficulty competing in the online job market.

We stand with the National Digital Inclusion Alliance as they work to protect the essential investments that would advance digital access, skills, and opportunities for people and communities nationwide.

October 4-10 is Digital Inclusion Week 2026.

National Digital Inclusion Alliance advances digital equity by connecting organizations, supporting community programming, and equipping policymakers to act.

Incredibly proud of the artists among those we serve, who together created five (!!!) panels for the Mayerson JCC's Under One Roof Sukkah exhibit.

Our artists said:
"What touched me most was how the JFS staff made sure everyone could participate. They encouraged those who felt shy about creating individual artwork to join group projects, and they also made a special effort to include residents of the nursing home in the creative process. It was a wonderful experience that brought people together and created a true sense of unity."

"Knowing how much effort, thought, and preparation went into this project, and remembering the many conversations about what 'Chai' means to each participant, made the exhibition even more meaningful. Every year, we look forward to seeing the incredible talent within our community and spending time with friends in the sukkah."

"I thoroughly enjoyed today's event. It is inspiring to be part of a community filled with such gifted and creative individuals. One of the highlights for me was seeing the artwork of my friend, Lola Smolyansky. It made the experience feel even more personal and memorable."

Members of the Center for Holocaust Survivors and the Russian Jewish Cultural Center took a trip to the Mayerson JCC today to enjoy the Under One Roof Sukkah exhibit.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month. While the month is a time of joy, atonement and looking inward for many in our community, it can also be a time of feeling lonelier and more isolated.

Yesterday, Jewish Family Service held a training for staff, in partnership with 1N5.org, to further train our team to have difficult conversations around suicidal thoughts.

As 1N5 says: "One in five teens and adults live with a mental illness. Stop the stigma. Start the conversation."
