Happy 4th of July!

China’s private sector remains economically vital but politically constrained, meaning entrepreneurs must increasingly align with national priorities while improving innovation, transparency, global trust, and geographic diversification to survive a more fragmented world economy. Meanwhile, the United States and the broader international community should avoid both naïve globalization and indiscriminate hostility toward China, instead pursuing strategic competition through stronger domestic industries, selective de-risking in sensitive technologies, and continued academic, cultural, and commercial engagement to reduce the risk of escalation. Ultimately, the future stability of the global economy may depend less on which side “wins” and more on whether governments, financial elites, and business leaders can preserve enough cooperation and predictability to prevent geopolitical rivalry from undermining global prosperity itself.

The first quarter of the 21st century may ultimately be remembered as the era in which the center of gravity of global manufacturing shifted decisively toward China, while United States remained the dominant financial, military, and technological power. It was not a traditional Cold War.
