The Legal Aid Society will be closed on Friday, June 19 in commemoration of Juneteenth. We will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22.

Juneteenth honors the abolition of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and informed enslaved African American residents that the Civil War had ended, and they were free. The celebrations that rose up from that proclamation marked the start of Juneteenth, which became a federal holiday in 2021.

We're excited to share that in the 2025-2026 school year, our Kids In School Rule! (KISR!) partnership resulted in graduation rates of 95% at Cincinnati Public Schools, 100% at Northwest Local School District, and 100% at Winton Woods City Schools, our newest partner. KISR! ensures that education is a high priority for students in foster care and puts them on the path to academic success and high school graduation.

Legal Aid Senior Supervising Attorney Sarah Flohre shared, "It has been a privilege to support these amazing kids on their paths to graduation, and we look forward to hearing about their future accomplishments." Read more about the program and its success this school year in the Cincinnati Enquirer article linked below.

As of May 13, all Ohio SNAP recipients must unlock their EBT card before making online or out-of-state purchases. Since most skimming - organized theft of SNAP directly from EBT cards - occurs from out of state, this change should vastly reduce skimming.

Legal Aid Attorney Regina Campbell added "this interim move by ODJFS will greatly help protect Ohioans who receive SNAP, but we still recommend that everyone keep their SNAP card locked until they need to use it." Need help locking your card? Watch the-how to video below, produced by ODJFS. You can also lock your card on the Connect EBT website listed below or by calling Conduent at 1-866-386-3071.
