Happy International Day of the Girl!

Girls all around the world deserve equal rights and equitable opportunities, no matter the circumstances they're born into. CoEd's work is dedicated to making education accessible to girls in rural Guatemala so that they're equipped with the skills and agency to determine what their futures will look like!

During July and August, school leaders and technical education supervisors of MINEDUC continued their training in leadership workshops developed by CoEd in partnership with Global School Leaders (GSL).

The workshops focused on building concrete skills like utilizing classroom observation and feedback as tools to improve teachers' abilities. Participants worked on observing with better precision, recognizing biases, building trust in relationships, and offering useful feedback to support teachers' professional development.

This training will continue through future workshops that aim to bring school leadership closer to what occurs in the classroom and to the learning experience of students!

Beyond training teachers on how to effectively build literacy skills in young students, our Spark team works hard to develop classroom resources like rotafolios. These flipcharts contain stories written by Spark staff and teachers, accompanied by fun illustrations, questions, and activities to help students engage with what they're reading.

Leona, a third grade Spark teacher shares the positive impact that resources like the rotafolios have made on her teaching experience: "These flipcharts are powerful pedagogical tools. They awaken the natural curiosity of children, turning the reading corner into a magnetic and cozy space."

We had a historic moment at the US CoEd office last week! For the first time ever in CoEd history, both chairs of the US Board of Directors and Asociación COED Board were at our office. Our team had a great afternoon spending time with Rolando and Carlos and look forward to their continued leadership with CoEd!

In August, Rise students came to our San Lucas office for a vocational workshop to explore their professional and educational futures! This was an opportunity for students to brainstorm what dreams they'd like to work towards while receiving career advice from a panel of working professionals.

We're excited to see what kinds of futures these bright, young students create! 🎓
