TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT: TWO OPPORTUNITIES!

We have two different opportunities to share with you this week.
1. This coming Saturday, March 28th, Work Day for Cutting Fleece
And
2. The opening of registration for this year’s 2026 Scrappy Sewing with Patty Fundraiser.

The first is a reminder that next Saturday, March 28th, our chapter is hosting a Blanket Work Day to prepare fleece for an upcoming school’s Make a Blanket Day event. Join us from 9 am to 2:00 ish pm at:

The River Church, 5546 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, OH, 45044

For this Blanket Day, we have a special need: folks to help us cut and prepare 130 yards of fleece. Tasks include: ·cutting 2 yard and 1 ½ yard segments, removing the salvage, cutting out 5-inch square corners. We will have scissors, straight edges, measuring tape and cutting mats. If you have a rotary cutter handle, we will have 45 mm blades. If you have an extra cutting straight edge that would help too.

Fear Not! We will also have:
*Cut Fleece for making no sew tied fringe fleece blankets.
*Cut Fleece hole punched for making no sew fleece blankets with crocheted edging.
*Pre cut kits for sewing quilt tops, and batting to go.
*Skeins of yarn for sharing.
*An assortment of cut cotton fabric for sharing.

Of course, we will be happy to receive any blankets Blanketeers have been working on this winter.

We are meeting at The River Church, 5546 Cincinnati Dayton Road, Liberty Township, OH. The church is set back from the road. There is a very visible sign at the road’s edge. The parking lot is spacious. Look for the doors labeled, West Entrance. The Main Entrance works, too. There are just many more steps up to reach the front door! We will offer a light refreshment and bottled water. You are encouraged to bring any other preferred beverage.

ALSO

The second is a reminder that The Scrappy Sewing with Patty 2026 fundraiser is now open for registration. 7 brand new patterns will be available for download beginning Saturday April 4-with a new one released every 2 weeks. This is a great way to obtain fun new patterns to use up your scraps of fabric pieces and sharing your new quilt tops with other Blanketeers.

Should you register, please identify Margaret Snider, chapter coordinator, and Southwest Ohio and Northern KY for our chapter to be credited with your $20 donation. Registration and details at: https://Projectlinus.org and look for “Click for more information” under the Scrappy Sewing with Patty graphic. Or: https://projectlinus.org/scrappy.php

NOTE1: Your receipt includes a lot of very important information for you, though please wait a day or two for your information to be input into system, before trying to log in.
NOTE2: Keep track of the email and password you use to register. You’ll use the same login to download the patterns every other week.

As Always: Check out our Blanketeer Gallery: this is our opportunity to acknowledge receipt of blankets/quilts from Shannon and Beverly. And to say thank you!

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT – KIDS HELPING KIDS

We have two stories this week about Kids Helping Kids. The first is about Miss W’s class of 5th graders at the Felicity-Franklin Local Elementary School in Felicity, Ohio. Check out the mountain of 22 no sew, fleece tied blankets they made for Project Linus during their recess and break periods. They even upcycled a remaining piece of fleece as a scarf for Chapter Linus! The truly wonderful part of this story is how their teacher wove the theme of sharing and caring for others into their Language Arts lessons. They had reading and writing exercises focusing on the two children’s books, The Keeping Quilt by Patricia Polacco and The Story Blanket by Ferida Wolff. It was a delight to have been invited to participate in this learning adventure.

The second story is about a grandmother sharing her time and talent with her granddaughters. While visiting Grandmother Kris, Sadie and Addison made three no sew tied fringe blankets for Project Linus (picture 2 below). They also are practicing beginning crochet skills, soon to be making blankets just like the ones Grandmother Kris made for Project Linus.

Check out the picture gallery of this month’s blankets, quilts, and afgans created by several of our wonderful Blanketeers.

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT – A HEAVENLY CHORUS OF THANK YOUS

Here is our repeating anthem: We give thanks to all of our Blanketeers, volunteer drop off locations, and generous donors of fabric and yarn!

It is just the second month of the new year and our scribe has already fallen behind in extending our thanks and acknowledgements to our many benefactors. Many are folks who frequently and regularly share their gifts of time, talent, and materials. And there are a few new Blanketeers and service Groups. Welcome Aboard!

We have a gentle note of thanksgiving and condolences. Cindy T of Burlington, KY, was a very generous and prolific crocheting Blanketeer. She passed away in late December. She made her husband, Jim, promise to make sure her yarn stash of over 220 skeins were gifted to our Project Linus chapter. Thank you Cindy and Jim.

Here is a running list of giving folks: Cindy and Jim T. of Burlington, KY; Susanne O. of Loveland; Kendra A. a UC student hosting a service day with her Comfort Covers group; Rapid Run Middle School Student Builders Club, Amy G. and her crocheting buddies; students from the Wisdom Way Home School cooperative at Faith Church in Milford, OH; Donna W. of Milford; Charlet L.; Cindy D. delivered to Kramer’s in Montgomery; Diane S. of Milford; The Hands and Hearts Ministry of Armstrong Chapel in Indian Hills; Jalia S. in Florence, KY; the students of Liberty Township Community Montessori School; Linda D. delivered to Micheals in Florence; Mary Ellen V. delivered to Bessie’s Niche in Alexandria, KY; Sharon S. of Milford; Sue S. of Milford; Nancy S. delivered to Kramer’s; Natalie F. completing her academic service credit assignment; Robin C. of College Hill; the Scarf It Up ladies in Monfort Heights; Sharen K. as delivered to Kramer’s; Gail A. picked up at Bessie’s Niche; Charlene G.; the Queen City Bombers Softball team; The Mason Star Quilting Guild. In addition, we received fabric donated by Lesa C. of Middletown, the Terreri/Gauden family in Mt. Lookout; Linda R. of Clifton; Karen H. of Independence KY; Teri S. of Loveland; and Lois F. of Morrow.

(One tiny disclaimer, I hope I didn’t miss saying thank you to anyone. We do receive several blankets anonymously. And, I might occasionally mix up incoming notes and labels.)

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT – BLANKETS IN AND BLANKETS OUT

Chapter Linus has spent the first few weeks of January 2026 doing his accounting due diligence. With the “closing the books” for 2025, Chapter Linus learned that our wonderful Blanketeers made and distributed a little over 3,000 blankets in 2025.

Each Project Linus chapter is responsible for sending accurate reports of blankets received and blankets delivered each month to the national Project Linus office in Belton, Missouri. We are very careful to meet each of the US Federal Tax Reporting requirements for a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Under the direction of Patty Gregory, our non-profit’s president, Project Linus is recognized as a 4-Star Charity by Charity Navigator. *

Since the program inception in 1995, over 10 million blankets have been distributed all over these United States. As of today, our Southwest Ohio and Northern KY group, formed in 2001, has distributed just under 95,000 beautifully and lovingly handmade blankets.

We give thanks to all of our Blanketeers, volunteer drop off locations, and generous donors of fabric and yarn!

*A 4 Star Charity is the highest rating awarded by Charity Navigator, indicating an "exceptional" nonprofit that adheres to industry best practices, operates with high financial efficiency, and maintains strong accountability and transparency. This designation is achieved by only about 25% of evaluated organizations.

TODAY’S SPOTLIGHT – GIVING THANKS – OF COURSE!

Today is a perfect day for posting a note about “Giving Thanks.” We give thanks to all of our Blanketeers, volunteer drop off locations, and generous donors of fabric and yarn!

Earlier this month, I collected student made blankets from Meghan Hudepohl, a learning support specialist at The 7 Hills Schools. She supervised a “make a blanket” activity with her elementary student group, the Honeycomb Service Club. At the time of pick up, I asked her, “how did you hear about Project Linus?” She said, “when I was in Girl Scouts we made blankets for Project Linus, and so I was wondering if they were still around and perhaps my kids could make blankets too!” Ahhhhh, New Blanketeers in the Making!

Along with the many blankets, some as shown in this collection, our chapter was the beneficiary of several generous donations of fabric and yarn. Yarn from Caroline W. of Covington, KY; fabric from Karen H. of Burlington, KY; yarn from Janice S. of Florence, KY; flannel from the Terreri/Gauden family of Mt Lookout; and bags of fabric from Terri S, of Loveland, OH that overfilled my car!

In the picture gallery, say hello to SWONKY Chapter Linus (Chapter Linus for short). He is the spitting image of Traveling Linus who was with us in May. Chapter Linus will stay local and report on his many adventures in the New Year.

For this day of Thanksgiving, we recognize our generous Blanketeers and our partners who volunteer as drop off locations. Thank you Donna C. and Candy D.; Colleen O’ for blankets dropped off at Mason Community Center, Terri S. of Loveland, OH; Stephanie D. in Eastgate/Cherry Grove; Sheri G. of College Hill; Diane R. of Fairfield, OH; and Gayle B. blankets dropped off at Bessie’s Quilting Niche, in Alexandria, KY. Blankets collected at Picture This and at Quilt & Stuff both in Loveland, OH; Stitches in Glendale; Kramers in Montgomery; the ladies of Scarf It Up sewing ministry, and the sewing folks of John Wesley UMC. And, all the folks who choose to donate blankets anonymously, thank you.

October Chapter Update #5 – YEAH Team!

We have the most generous and creative Blanketeers! Just take a look at this picture gallery of blankets and quilts that arrived in October. With the usual disclaimer, this is but a few of the October blankets. Several arrive anonymously, and some are on the way out the door to eager recipients, before we even get time to photograph them!

First a summary of October's receiving agencies: Hope Emergency in Lynchburg, OH, UpSpring, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Cincinnati Children’s Hopple Street Health Clinic, UC NICU, Ronald McDonald House, and Kate’s Cupboard of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Healthy.

Now to recognize our generous blanketeers and our partners who volunteer to be drop off locations. Thank you Charlene G. and Diane S. blankets dropped off at Milford First UMC, Cindy T., Donna W., Karsen J. and her American Cancer Society Chapter on the Miami University of Oxford campus, Lois F., Mary Ellen V. all the way from Youngstown, OH and received by our friends at Bessie’s Quilting Niche, in Alexandria, KY, members of the Mason Ohio Star Guild, Nancy H., New Day UMC, Olivia W., for her school service project at St. Pius X, Rivertown Quilters Guild, Robin C., the ladies of Scarf It Up sewing ministry, the Ladies Who Sew at Seams Sew Easy Fabrics, in Fairfield, OH, Carla G. as received by our friends at Stitches, in Glendale, OH, and the sewing folks of John Wesley UMC. And there is even more! We received a generous donation of yarn (over 50 skeins) and 4 totes (the 20 gallon size) of wonderful flannel cut yardage all from Linda R. of Clifton.

To each of our Blanketeers: know in your heart, you did a good thing! Thank you.

October Chapter Update #4 – GO Mustangs!

In early October we received a note from Ms Brenda Keltner, the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher at Lynchburg Clay High School. Once again, she and her students had set aside time to make 20 double layer tied fringe fleece blankets for Project Linus. It was a very pleasant trip to receive their gifts and chat with a few of the “makers.”

October Chapter Update #3 – Gifts and More Gifts

Dear Readers, perhaps you saw some of the posts in 2024 that pictured the donated quilts made by Lois F. Of note, she resided just outside of Valdosta, Georgia and was sending her blankets all the way to Ohio specifically to our Project Linus Chapter. It was almost like we had our very own Quilting Fairy Godmother! Earlier this year, she and her husband relocated to the greater Cincinnati area to be closer to family. And, she is back at work sending us quilts. She also donated several generous cuts of cotton fabric!
Thank you Lois, we are delighted you are closer to family and to us!

October Chapter Update #2 – An Open Letter To A Grandmother

Dear Grandmother Lauren (of Lawrenceburg, IN), we are in receipt of your donation of 8 quilts. Not only are the quilts wonderfully made, equally special was the note you included! As you stated, “My granddaughters Audrey, 14, and Caroline, 12, made 5 of the 8….” Fellow blanketeers, I wish you could see the workmanship and feel each blanket’s warmth and love. Here is a grandmother sharing her knowledge and skill and guiding her grandchildren. And, here are two young ladies learning to create and to share with others. Thank you so much for your gift of love and the ripples it will create.

OCTOBER 2025 CHAPTER UPDATE - #1 of 5

Oh My Goodness! What happened to the month of October! If Traveling Linus had been with us this past month as he was in May, he would be so overwhelmed he would have to cuddle up in his own blanket to restore his composure! We had a Make a Blanket Day event (in September). We participated in the Thomas More University’s 5th Annual Saints Serve Day. We made several deliveries of blankets and were the beneficiaries of new blankets and quilts and some very generous donations of yarn and fabric!
It will take a few posts to catch up!

Here is our note on Saints Serve at Thomas More:

On Oct. 14, 2025, Thomas More University canceled all normal daytime classes and instead organized a day of service for its students, faculty and staff. Known as Saints Serve, this day continues a longstanding tradition at Thomas More of honoring its Catholic mission and identity through service.

https://more.thomasmore.edu/campus-news/photo-gallery-saints-serve-2025/

The Southwest Ohio and Northern KY Project Linus Chapter is proud to have been invited to participate in this institution’s 5th annual Saints Serve Day.

It was a good day! The Thomas More Saints finished 69 blankets, a mix of teen and child sized no sew, fringe tied, fleece blankets! Most of these blankets will be distributed to one of our partner agencies who include a teen blanket in a backpack for youth disrupted from the home.

Thomas More University is a private Roman Catholic university in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. It serves about 2,000 full and part-time students. The university was founded in 1921 by the local Benedictine Sisters as Villa Madonna College.

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT #3 - A GALLERY OF HUGS AND SMILES

Dear Friends of Project Linus and Blanketeers, we are woefully behind in sending our thanks and appreciation for the many blankets and quilts that have arrived in August and September. This photo gallery only shows some of those donations. (Would you believe we keep enlarging our photo storage in the iCloud?!)

While many of the blankets arrive anonymously, we wish to acknowledge the gifts from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, collected at Milford First United Methodist Church; The Ladies Who Sew at Seams So Easy; The Ladies of Scarf it Up ministry at St Ignatius of Loyola parish; residents of Brookdale Nursing facility guided by Jill M. of St Ursula Villa School, and John Wesley United Methodist Church. We have a very generous community of folks. And, We really like to acknowledge individual Blanketeers as we can. Thank you Diane S., Jalia S., Diane R., Nancy H., Robin C., Pat P., Cindy T., Renee E., Jenn G., Stephanie D., Angel C., Susan F, Allie B., and Amy G.
