Urban League Guild of Greater Southwestern Ohio HISTORY OF THE GUILD
The first Urban League Guild was established in 1942 by Mrs.

The Urban League Guild has three primary roles. 1) To help promote the programs and services of the Urban League. 2) To help raise funds to support the organization. 3) To provide volunteers to help work events and activities the Urban League runs. Mollie Moon to raise funds to support the efforts of the National Urban League. Her untiring efforts generated interest throughout the Urban League movement and prompted other affiliates to organize guilds to help raise money in their own local areas. In 1952, at the National Urban League Conference, the National Council of Urban League Guilds was established. In its seventy year history the Guild has become an integral part of the Urban League Movement. Guild members are considered to be the heart and soul of the Urban League as they fundraise for their local affiliates and contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually. Nationally, there are 80 "financial" Guilds with a combined membership of 8,000 and growing!

The Urban League Guild of Greater Southwestern Ohio was in the house!

What a wonderful evening as Guild members came together to support the Cincinnati NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner as a proud Table Sponsor.

It was a privilege to gather with fellow Guilders, community leaders, and partners for an inspiring evening featuring Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett as the keynote speaker.

We are especially proud of the strong relationship between our Advocacy Committee and Cincinnati NAACP. Our shared commitment to civic engagement, advocacy, and strengthening our communities makes this partnership so important.

A special thank-you to all of our Guild members who showed up, represented the Guild, and helped make the evening memorable. Your presence demonstrates that when we come together, we can make an even greater impact.

The Urban League Guild of Greater Southwestern Ohio and the Urban League Young Professionals of Greater Southwestern Ohio were out in force Saturday, September 26, for a great day of service at The Healing Center Cincinnati!

Our Guilders and YPs rolled up their sleeves—sorting clothing, packing cosmetic items, organizing food donations from Kroger and the Freestore Food Bank, and assisting guests in the Marketplace. 🛒👕🥫

🗳️ Voter Education & Community Engagement!

On Sunday, September 20, the ULGSO Guild Advocacy Committee, Guilders, and Cincinnati NAACP members returned to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center for our second Voter Education & Registration Event.

While we didn’t register any new voters, we had meaningful conversations with visitors about checking their registration, early voting, learning about the candidates and offices on their ballots, and properly returning mail-in ballots.

We also made some great connections—including a visitor who was so interested in the Guild that she wanted to join and pay her dues on the spot! We invited her to our October General Body meeting. 🙌🏾

As Judith Tyree reminded us, sometimes our presence is the message. Being there created awareness and positive visibility for the Urban League and our commitment to voter education.

A special thank-you to Al & Judith Tyree, D. Lyne Watts, Michelle Renee Norflee, Edith Smith, Jean Beirise, Cincinnati NAACP, Jeremy Jimmar (Cincinnati NAACP Political Education Chair and Hamilton County Board of Elections Administrator), and his sons for your support!

This was our final Advocacy Committee-sponsored event of the year, but the work continues. Let’s keep encouraging our communities to Turn Out the Vote! 🗳️

What an incredible week at the National Urban League Conference in Nashville!

Judith and I had the tremendous honor of representing the Urban League Guild of Greater Southwestern Ohio alongside Guild Presidents and members from across the country who are committed to advancing the mission of the Urban League Movement.
