Oola Khan Grotto

Oola Khan Grotto Since 1921, Oola Khan Grotto has been Cincinnati’s chapter of Grottoes International—the Fun Side of Masonry.

We unite Masons & families for parades, picnics and music, while funding dental care for kids with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism & more.

✨DID YOU KNOW✨ that dental care is the #1 unmet health care need for children with special needs?

Barriers like limited access to trained providers, higher costs, and sensory or behavioral challenges often prevent these children from getting the care they deserve.

Oral health is more than just a smile, it's an essential part to a child's overall health, confidence, and quality of life.

Untreated dental issues can lead to pain, infection, difficulty eating, and even impact speech and learning.

At the Humanitarian Foundation our goal is to continue to care for more children with unmet dental needs.

🎩 Meet a Prophet Monday

Every Monday, we shine a light on one of the faces beneath the black fez—highlighting their story, their heart, and what makes Oola Khan Grotto the fun side of Freemasonry.

This week, meet Tim Karr—Cutting Manager for KDM Printing, Past Monarch of Oola Khan Grotto, and a brother whose heart for the mission is deeply personal.

“Life is too short not to have fun. I joined the Grotto because I believed in what it stood for. The charitable mission meant a lot to me, and learning more about the work we do made it even more personal. I had an uncle with cerebral palsy, and that connection is what truly drew me in. I do this in honor of my Uncle Tom.”

As our Monarch last year, Tim helped lead Oola Khan with warmth, dedication, and a real love for the brotherhood. He represents the spirit of the Grotto well—good fellowship, meaningful service, and the reminder to enjoy life while giving back to others. Tim shows that beneath the black fez is not just fun, but heart.

🎩 2026 Officers Installed — and a few well-earned awards, too.

Recently, Oola Khan Grotto gathered to officially install our 2026 officer line and recognize a few brothers who’ve been putting in real work for the Realm. Congratulations to everyone stepping into a role this year — we’re looking forward to a strong, fun, and meaningful year with Austin Hall serving as Monarch.

A huge shoutout to Samis Grotto for mailing stickers our way. It was the perfect touch — the kind of simple, fun memento that lets brothers head home smiling and keeps the fellowship rolling after the meeting. We’ll be sending something back your way soon as a thank-you.

Here’s to Mirth • Fellowship • Service. 🏮

🎩 Meet a Prophet Monday

Every Monday we shine a light on one of the faces beneath the black fez—why they joined, what they love, and how they bring mirth & good fellowship to Oola Khan Grotto.

Meet Greg — a Compliance Advisor, Venerable Prophet of Oola Khan Grotto, and District Deputy Grand Master for the 18th District in the Grand Lodge of Kentucky.

“I joined the Grotto to meet more like-minded Brothers who enjoy having a good time—and who work hard to support charities and community involvement.”

Greg lives in both worlds: the serious work of leadership and ritual, and the relaxed side of laughs, rides, and road trips with family and friends. In lodge rooms and under the black fez, he’s the steady hand who keeps things organized, encourages others to jump in, and reminds us that fellowship is part of the work, too.

Whether it’s a fez, a DDGM apron, or a Harley shirt, Greg shows what mirth in Masonry looks like—service with a smile and a heart for helping others.

Kishmee, I’m Grotto!

shoutout to Kishmee Grotto of Covington, Kentucky—a lively Grotto founded in the early 1920s. By the 1980s Kishmee went dark, and its Prophets filtered into neighboring Grottoes, with many finding a home at Oola Khan. Their legend still lingers across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

Ever wonder where Grotto names come from? When a new Grotto petitions Supreme Council, the founders propose a unique name along with their charter request. Some choose playful, Persian-style names that fit the Lalla Rookh theme; others pick titles rooted in local history or pride. Whatever the choice, the name becomes the banner under which Prophets gather, laugh, and make memories.

If you or your family have old Kishmee photos, postcards, or programs tucked away, drop them in the comments so we can help preserve this piece of local Grotto history.
