Overview of WWTR for Registrants

What is WWTR: Warrior Weekend is a four-day event held at Camp Chautauqua, a 45 acre wooded retreat center located on the Great Miami River south of Dayton, Ohio. The weekend is hosted and organized by volunteers, many of whom are Alumni of WWTR. Their goal is to provide an enriching week-end for honored combat injured warriors and fallen hero families, through a string of daily activities that create a backdrop for bonding, healing, and life enhancing experiences.

WWTR Basic Agenda for August 8 - 11 2024:
- Thursday: Check in, settle into lodging*, team building activities onsite, orientation dinner, evening bonfire.
- Friday: Drop Zone Day, Skydiving and Aircraft rides, Camp Chautauqua activities, evening bonfire onsite.
- Saturday: Gun Range, Camp Chautauqua activities, evening Capstone Banquet
- Sunday: Goodbyes, guests depart for home.
*Please note: Guests' accommodations will be in cabins or bunkhouses, all meals will be provided. .

WWTR Expected Outcomes:
- Bonding: Make some amazing new friends and become part of the Blue Skies Family
- Healing: Old mental and emotional injuries will begin healing.
- Enriching: Have fun doing fun things, some of which just might challenge you.
- Open Hearts: The combination of all the elements opens hearts to the goodness created by the event.

What WWTR is Not: This is not a party; alcohol is highly discouraged. It is not simply a paid luxury vacation where your every whim is accommodated, rather this a powerful retreat where guests will be surrounded by many amazing, authentic, and compassionate volunteers who want nothing more than for you to have fun, heal and connect into a healthy network. Guests who attend and create drama or exhibit selfish and disruptive behavior for the other participants and volunteers will be sent home immediately.

Who Should Attend: We primarily seek combat injured warriors and fallen hero families. Not all injuries are physical and not all heroes die in combat. Priority goes to combat injured Purple Hearts and fallen hero Gold Star families, however special consideration is often provided based on interviews and alumni recommendations. We make every effort to invite guests who have never been to an event like ours and WWTR would have the greatest positive impact.

Blue Skies Family, Bring your worn flags to the Team Fastrax Warrior Weekend To Remember VIP Banquet Saturday Aug 13 at Camp Chautauqua. Cheryl Compton, Old Glory Rescue Founder, will have a table to collect your flags for a respectful retirement. No need to RSVP.

Have you ever asked how someone could fly Old Glory in such bad shape? Could be an older couple that just needs help, could be some one that just doesn’t know what to do with it or could be someone passed away and their USA Flag hasn’t been taken care of. Old Glory, our American Flag, should always be honored and flown with respect! But when it’s time to retire her, it’s surprising how many people don’t know the proper way to retire or where to retire her.

Old Glory Rescue is here to help in ANY situation!! Old Glory Rescue was created in October 2020 by Cheryl Compton. It’s a grass roots volunteer group full of people who care about our America Flag and the honor it represents. Our American Flag should always be flying respectfully and no Veteran should ever have to look upon a tattered, frayed or faded American Flag.
Do you have an American Flag that needs to be retired? Old Glory Rescue can help!! Check out our FB page and we will have a table set up at the Blue Skies Banquet Saturday evening with information and an educational flyer. Bring any Old Glory you have that needs to be retired and we will make sure Old Glory has the retirement she deserves!

Are you an Ohio veteran interested in becoming a teacher? Although the Defense Department cancelled the Troops to Teachers Program in 2020, the Ohio Department of Education continues to support transitioning active duty service members, currently serving reserve component service members, and military veterans and their spouses interested in a subsequent career in education. The Ohio Department of Education eliminates fees for educator licenses to recognize the contributions of military families. Any initial Ohio educator license, permit or certificate – or for a renewal – is waived for candidates who are veterans or current service members of all branches of the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard or Reserves. Spouses of active duty services members also may receive a license free of charge.

In addition, through its Alternative Educator Licensure Program, the Buckeye State offers anyone who holds a bachelor’s degree the chance to earn a teaching credential. Also, qualifying individuals who have a high school diploma, five years of documented work experience, and completes an approved preservice career-technical education program can teach in career technical programs. Learn how you can help educate our future generations at https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Other-Resources/Ohio-Network-for-Military-Families-and-Veterans/Troops-to-Teachers.
