Overview of WWTR for Registrants
What is WWTR: Warrior Weekend is a four-day event held at Camp Chautauqua, a 45 acre wooded retreat center located on the Great Miami River south of Dayton, Ohio. The weekend is hosted and organized by volunteers, many of whom are Alumni of WWTR. Their goal is to provide an enriching week-end for honored combat injured warriors and fallen hero families, through a string of daily activities that create a backdrop for bonding, healing, and life enhancing experiences.
WWTR Basic Agenda for August 8 - 11 2024:
- Thursday: Check in, settle into lodging*, team building activities onsite, orientation dinner, evening bonfire.
- Friday: Drop Zone Day, Skydiving and Aircraft rides, Camp Chautauqua activities, evening bonfire onsite.
- Saturday: Gun Range, Camp Chautauqua activities, evening Capstone Banquet
- Sunday: Goodbyes, guests depart for home.
*Please note: Guests' accommodations will be in cabins or bunkhouses, all meals will be provided. .
WWTR Expected Outcomes:
- Bonding: Make some amazing new friends and become part of the Blue Skies Family
- Healing: Old mental and emotional injuries will begin healing.
- Enriching: Have fun doing fun things, some of which just might challenge you.
- Open Hearts: The combination of all the elements opens hearts to the goodness created by the event.
What WWTR is Not: This is not a party; alcohol is highly discouraged. It is not simply a paid luxury vacation where your every whim is accommodated, rather this a powerful retreat where guests will be surrounded by many amazing, authentic, and compassionate volunteers who want nothing more than for you to have fun, heal and connect into a healthy network. Guests who attend and create drama or exhibit selfish and disruptive behavior for the other participants and volunteers will be sent home immediately.
Who Should Attend: We primarily seek combat injured warriors and fallen hero families. Not all injuries are physical and not all heroes die in combat. Priority goes to combat injured Purple Hearts and fallen hero Gold Star families, however special consideration is often provided based on interviews and alumni recommendations. We make every effort to invite guests who have never been to an event like ours and WWTR would have the greatest positive impact.
