Trumpet or flugelhorn? πŸ€”
Chuck Mangione's signature sound came from the flugelhorn, a cousin of the trumpet with a wider, cone-shaped bore. The result is a darker, rounder, mellower tone.

Listen for the difference on Oct 29.
πŸ“… Thu, Oct 29 Β· 7pm (doors 6pm for dinner) Only 10 seats left.

Another Ohio original! 🎹
Art Tatum was born on this day in 1909 in Toledo. Nearly blind, he played with such speed and harmonic imagination that pianists still talk about him with awe.
Ohio has given jazz some true giants.

Happy birthday, Thelonious Monk! 🎹
Born October 10, 1917, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Monk wrote some of the most-played tunes in jazz, including "'Round Midnight," "Straight, No Chaser," and "Blue Monk." His angular, unexpected style still sounds like no one else.
