Cincinnati Book Arts Society CBAS is an all volunteer non-profit devoted to the book arts, that is: the making of books from binding & printing to paper making & artwork.

Cincinnati Book Arts Society (CBAS) is a nonprofit organization comprised of professionals and amateurs from all quarters of the book, paper and printing arts-bookbinders, paper makers, printers, paper marblers, and book artists, as well as archivists and conservators-for the purpose of creating a spirit of community among hand workers in the book arts and those who love books. We also strive to increase educational opportunities for private individuals as well as institutions and other organizations, fostering excellence through exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and publications dealing with various aspects of the art of the book throughout the year. In addition to classes and workshops, we also sponsor programs, lectures and meetings open to the public. CBAS works in conjunction and collaboration with other nonprofit arts organizations and educational institutions to enhance and expand complementary programs.

Artists accepted into Seen + Heard will be eligible for $800 in juried awards, recognizing exceptional work that explores the gendered experience in Appalachia.

🏆 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Seen + Heard — $200
Honoring the work that most powerfully reflects the exhibition's mission.

🗣️ Voice + Visibility Award — $150
Recognizing artwork that amplifies overlooked, marginalized, or underrepresented voices.

✨ Juror's Awards for Storytelling, Impact, + Innovation — 3 awards, $150 each
Celebrating outstanding narrative, emotional and social impact, and innovative artistic approaches.

Seen + Heard is a regional exhibition that brings together women and people with diverse experiences of femininity to share their stories through visual art and contemporary craft. Representing a wide range of backgrounds, and life experiences, participating artists challenge stereotypes, confront marginalization, and celebrate the richness and complexity of women's lives, feminine identities, and gendered experiences in Appalachia.

📅 Submissions due: October 11, 2026
🎟️ Entry fee: Sliding scale from $15–$65
🖼️ Exhibition dates: January 23 – March 21, 2027
💰 Sales: Works may be listed as Not for Sale. If offered for sale, artists receive 65%.
