For a limited time, all gifts to the “If You Give a Child a Book ...” campaign will be doubled!

We’re matching the first $200,000 in donations on Sept. 8 – 9. With your support, we can provide new books to students in Title I elementary schools who are at greater risk of falling behind. For some students, the books they receive through this campaign may be the first they can call their own.

Don’t wait! Give today: https://scripps.com/fund/childhood-literacy/book-campaign/

Your gift today can help launch the next generation of journalists — and right now, it will go twice as far.

Thanks to a generous donor, every gift will be doubled through Oct. 1. If 150 people give $20, the match will provide the $6,000 needed to fund one paid internship.

For UNC-Chapel Hill graduate Walker Livingston, her Scripps Howard Fund internship at Carolina Public Press reaffirmed her desire to pursue journalism and gave her paid, hands-on experience after graduation.

With your support, more emerging journalists can gain the skills, confidence and opportunity they need to succeed.

Watch as our President and CEO Meredith Delaney joins Glenn O. Swing Elementary Principal Ellen Peach on WCPO 9’s Cincy Lifestyle where they talked with Michelle Hopkins about the “If You Give a Child a Book …” campaign.

Glenn O. Swing in Covington, Ky., is one of nine Title I partner schools in the Greater Cincinnati region that benefit from “If You Give a Child a Book …” thanks to generous donations from the community.

Meredith shared how the initiative has expanded over the past decade to more than 90 schools nationwide and distributed nearly 2 million books, while Principal Peach described its impact on her students, including inspiring a love of reading.

📚 Every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading.

Today we're kicking off our annual “If You Give a Child a Book ..." campaign. Donations will provide new books to Title I elementary school students, helping them build home libraries of their own.

This year, we’re celebrating 10 years of book distribution. In the past decade, we’ve grown our reach to more than 90 partner schools across the country and have distributed nearly 2 million books.

With your help, we can continue to support students in these schools and expand to new partners. Join us in opening more books, more imaginations and more opportunities for kids in our communities.

We're proud to support causes like Idaho News 6's annual community baby shower. It’s a powerful example of how our stations turn community-focused campaigns into meaningful resources for the people who need it most. 👏

Today we remember Dolly Parton not only as a beloved artist, but as a champion for childhood literacy. Through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, she helped spark a love of reading in millions of young children. Her legacy reminds us that one book can change a child’s future, and when we work together, we can change the world. We honor Dolly by carrying that mission forward so that children can dream big and imagine more. 📚

This summer, 30 emerging journalists gained hands-on newsroom experience through our paid internship program.

They’re heading into fall with more than entries for their portfolios — they also gained new skills, sharpened their journalistic instincts and learned from professionals in the field.

Moe Shimizu, who interned at Shasta Scout in California, shares how the experience deepened her understanding of care and the ways it can shape meaningful reporting.

At the Scripps Howard Fund, we’re proud to support journalism initiatives that give emerging journalists hands-on opportunities to build new skills, gain real-world experience and tell important stories with care and purpose.

One example is the California Institution for Men Reporting Project, a fellowship for Chaffey College students focused on ethical and equitable reporting about prisons and incarcerated people. This grant, which we provided in 2025, supported training for incarcerated students at CIM, where they could develop their voices and reporting skills in partnership with Chaffey College students outside the prison.

One of the project’s coaches, Victoria Valenzuela, shared her perspective on the experience for Poynter: https://www.poynter.org/commentary/analysis/2026/teaching-journalism-students-to-cover-prisons-with-humanity/

Fellow Miranda Morgan also shared what she learned from the project: https://www.collegejournalism.org/student-press-report/these-community-college-journalists-are-giving-incarcerated-students-a-voice

Each year, we put thousands of books into the hands of children who need them most through our “If You Give a Child a Book …” program, but we know we can’t do this important work alone.

That’s why we’re proud to support organizations making a meaningful impact in childhood literacy, especially here in our hometown of Cincinnati.

This year, we awarded more than $500,000 in grants to 24 nonprofit organizations across Greater Cincinnati that are helping children learn to read, build literacy skills and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Together, we’re opening more books — and more possibilities — for children in our community. ❤️
