We’re celebrating two well-deserved promotions on the Scripps Howard Fund team! 🎉

Congratulations to Jill Ruther, our new journalism program manager, and Natalie Wenstrup, our new donor relations manager.

After serving as program operations specialists, Jill and Natalie are stepping into roles that will allow them to deepen their impact in support of our mission. Natalie has contributed her talents to the Fund for six years, while Jill has been an important part of our team for four years.

Five books. Endless possibilities. 📚

Students at Lillian Larsen Elementary School in San Luis Obispo, California, each chose five free books Monday through the Scripps Howard Fund’s “If You Give a Child a Book …” initiative thanks to support from KSBY and the generosity of the community.

Together, we’re helping more children build home libraries and a lifelong love of reading. 💚

When communities face crisis, Scripps local news stations are there—and the Scripps Howard Fund is proud to stand with them.

After an EF-3 tornado struck Wisconsin’s Fox Valley in July, we partnered with NBC 26 to launch the Fox Valley Tornado Relief Fund. The Northeast Wisconsin community came together in a big way to raise an incredible $117,120.11 to support neighbors impacted by the devastating storm, including a $10,000 donation from the Scripps Howard Fund.

The funds have been distributed to local organizations providing direct assistance to tornado victims helping them begin to recover and move forward.

Giving back starts at home.

On Sept. 26, our lead accountant, Sean Thomson (center), joined The E.W. Scripps Company's Dave Giles (left), Scripps Howard Fund board secretary; Brian Lawlor, former Scripps Howard Fund board member; and Karen Dew for RIDE CINCINNATI, an annual cycling fundraiser supporting local cancer research, education and care through the Cincinnati Cancer Foundation.

For Mike House, discovering a love of reading changed everything. ❤️ 📚

Mike, senior director of finance for The E.W. Scripps Company, never described himself as a reader until his early 30s when books sparked a personal growth journey.

Today, that journey inspires Mike to support the Scripps Howard Fund’s “If You Give a Child a Book …” campaign as both a campaign leader and volunteer—helping children discover the possibilities that can begin with the right book at the right time.

“There are so many young Mike Houses in our communities,” he said. “We are helping shape the future by investing in young minds today. That’s impactful.”

Last week, we celebrated a huge milestone for the Scripps Howard Fund. The 2 millionth book through our “If You Give a Child a Book …” initiative was distributed at Stephanie Tubbs Jones PreK-8 School in Cleveland and News 5 Cleveland was there to capture the excitement.

A milestone worth celebrating: 2 million books in the hands of young readers! 📚 🎉

On Wednesday, the Scripps Howard Fund officially distributed the 2 millionth book through our “If You Give a Child a Book …” initiative at Stephanie Tubbs Jones PreK-8 School in Cleveland. The best part? Every student chose five new books to help build their home libraries.

Thank you to Stephanie Tubbs Jones School and to the News 5 Cleveland team for helping us commemorate this special day. Launched in 2016, the program now reaches more than 90 schools across 22 states.

This milestone was made possible through the generosity of donors and community partners. Together, we’re helping more children discover the joy of reading to change their story for good. ❤️
