A new brine injection well will make Athens County the largest acceptor of chemical-laden fracking waste in Ohio. Athens County Fracking Action Network - ACFAN.org has filed an appeal to protect the community--follow them for updates.

ODNR has issued an injection well permit to K&H Partners in Troy Township, which would make Athens County the biggest fracking waste depository in the state.

By the end of May, American Electric Power will shut down seven coal-fired power plants. Two others are in the process of being converted to run on natural gas. The actions are a follow-through on plans announced in 2011 and then updated since then, necessitated in part by federal clean-air rules.
