The American Music Recital is an essential component of Phi Mu Alpha's philanthropic involvement, and has existed on a national level since the fraternity was founded. In an effort to alleviate a detrimental culture of competition among working American musicians, the original brothers of Phi Mu Alpha sought to increase camaraderie by hosting events the exclusively celebrated works of American musicians. The original intent of these recitals was to help working musicians in America gain confidence, and ultimately, respect, in an ever-competitive national music pool. The AMR still stands as a cornerstone of Phi Mu Alpha's ideology, and is not meant as indulgence in nationalism, but a celebration of our peers' literature.
