New Fishing Opportunity in Xenia 🎣
📍 XENIA, Ohio – Families and young anglers in southwest Ohio can enjoy fishing this spring and summer courtesy of our district office in Xenia. The former hatchery ponds provide the opportunity for families and budding young anglers to create memories together and get hooked on fishing.

Families and Youth aged 17 and younger can fish in the ponds. The fishing ponds are open Wednesday through Sunday, ending October 31. Some dates will be closed during the season to host special activities.

The Division of Wildlife youth and family fishing ponds are located at 1076 Old Springfield Pike in Xenia. Parking, restrooms, and seating are available for guests. Young anglers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A valid Ohio fishing license is required for anyone who is aged 16 or older.

Five permits will be issued per day. Individuals 17 years old or younger do not need an access permit, but they are required to be accompanied by a permitted adult. Permits may be obtained through the Ohio Landowner-Hunter Access Partnership and are available 8 pm the day before, and the day of only.

In an effort to provide all anglers with plenty of action, the fishing ponds are catch and release only. No fish may be harvested. Fish are to be returned to the lake immediately. Visitors may bring their own tackle but should note that no live fish may be used as bait.

Species that can be caught include bluegill, bass, and trout. The fishing area ponds are spring-fed and stay cool throughout the summer, supporting catchable rainbow trout 10-13 inches in length that are stocked annually. Rainbow trout are exciting to catch and give first-time anglers an excellent opportunity for success.

Have you ever sat on an open fly box full of flies? You won’t want to miss Junes BUFF general meeting speaker presentation this month. BUFF’s own Lisa Morrisette presents a whale of a tale about her travels and fishing adventures during an 8 week caravan out to Colorado, up to Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and the return to Cincinnati through Minnesota.
Bringing back memories of George Perrot presents (you had to grow up in Detroit in the 50’s and 60’s) it’s a travelogue that provides plenty of action and beautiful vistas of a lovely part of the US. Lisa ventured out with her dog pals towing a camper with the goal to fish along the way. Plenty of tales with the majestic moose and rabid fly boxes ensued.

Lisa’s mother was the fly fisherman in the family. Not to be outdone later in life Lisa thought it would be fun and has given it a try. She has a PHD in art history and has curated and taught internationally, retiring from the Taft Museum in 2019. Her fishing prowess is legendary. Guides have been heard to say “you should have seen her before”. Lisa is very independent and regularly travels wherever her will takes her.

This will be an entertaining program with loads of scenic places and lots of fishing locations out west. It could very well be the inspiration for you to get out and go to someplace new.

Tech Talk - TBD

Dinner Menu:

Garden Salad
Grilled Out - Burgers/Hot Dogs w/ assorted topping
Pasta Salad
Baked Beans

Trip Description Buckeye Veterans Fly Fishing are meeting at the Kingswood Park pond for a morning of fishing and camaraderie. Formerly a golf course, this pond holds sunfish, blue gills, largemouth, and if you’re up for it, big carp. Also a good opportunity to work on your casting skills and learn some options for still water fishing. Want to try Tenkara? Tenkara is the art of Japanese fly fishing—a rod, a line, and a fly. Give it a try.

All Veterans are welcome.
