Ohio Fly Tying Guild
The October Ohio Fly Tying Guild tying session with BUFF's Gary Begley is this Friday, October 16, at 6:30 pm Eastern time.

This month, a Zug Bug, a pattern developed in the 1930's and is still around today. Fly patterns that stay popular for that long usually do so because they work!

Secondly, a Frenchie. An easy tie, but very effective. The Frenchie is used by fly fishers in fly fishing competitions.

Let's Tie One On!

The return of Ties, Lies, and Pints is finally here. We had a great turnout last year and are looking forward to an even better tying season this year. For those not familiar; Ties, Lies, and Pints is a social gathering of fly fishing folk at a local establishment where we sit around and tie flies, tell stories, and embellish about the "one" that got away. Bring your vice, tools, and materials and tie any fly you'd like. Or, just show up and hang out All are welcome! There is no set program, just show up and have fun.

All events run from 6:30pm – 9:00pm.

2. November 3rd at Third Eye Brewing, Sharonville
3. December 2nd at Depot Brewing, Maineville
4. January 12th at DVD Brewing, Loveland

A little Miami Valley History - Col. Deeds was the CEO of NCR in Dayton, his home was Moraine Farm near the main Kettering Hospital today. He also gave funds to create the Deeds Carillon Historic Park in Dayton. He was part of the Barn Gang with the Wright Brothers, and Charles "Boss" Kettering who developed the starter for the automobile and formed Delco using principals from the electric cash register motors from NCR where he was the lead engineer.

Status / Recovery of Lake Superior’s Coasters
Jerry Darkes




Jerry Darkes has over 5 decades of fly-fishing experience in fresh and saltwater. He was one of the first fly-fishing instructors in NE OH. Jerry is certified by Fly Fishers International and has taught for over 30 years. Jerry is a well-known author with 4 books and numerous magazine articles to his credit.

Jerry has traveled extensively and hosts groups to a variety of fly-fishing locations.

He has been featured on radio, televison, and various podcasts including Wet Fly Swing and Anchored Outdoors. Jerry is also on the Scott Rod and Scientific Anglers Pro Staffs.

He will do a program for women on the history of women fly tyers (prior to the club meeting) for the BUFF Ladies, followed by a presentation on the status / recovery of Lake Superior’s coasters for the main meeting. For those who are not familiar with coasters, they are lake run brook trout and can reach upwards of 23”. They can be fished for on many of the connecting rivers to Lake Superior as well as the lake.
