Flying Cloud Academy of Vintage Dance The Flying Cloud is dedicated to the research, performance, and teaching of vintage dance from the early 1800s through the 1930s.

The Flying Cloud is credited with the flowering of vintage dance in North America. Founded in 1981 by Richard Powers, the organization has sparked interest in historic social dance throughout the world. The Flying Cloud is dedicated to the preservation, performance, and teaching of historic ballroom dances and music. We provide opportunities for dancers of all levels to enjoy the magic of authentic historic dance and other related traditions. We share our love of dance through classes, performances, and the re-creation of elegant evenings of dancing in period settings.

Happy Fancy Dress Friday!
Our next ball is a Fancy Dress Ball, but what is that? Basically a Victorian costume party! These parties could have a specific theme for the costume or guests could choose any costume they wanted. Queen Victoria held three fancy dress balls with a specific era as the theme. A late medieval ball in 1842, a Georgian ball in 1845, and a Stuart ball in 1851. These are the costumes she and Prince Albert wore to these balls. So historical costumes were definitely a popular choice! Each Friday until the ball, we'll share more costume ideas! But as aways, our balls are "costume admired, but not required."
