We raise funds to provide training and educational assistance for lawyers who represent the indigent accused in Hamilton County Ohio.

Jennifer is a wonderful human being, lawyers and teacher. As the public defender in NJ, she gets it. Data supports the premise the lack of stability is one of the greatest obstacles to people being successful once entering the criminal justice system. Proposed legislation would expand the program statewide, connecting defendants with housing, treatment, employment, and other support.

Criminal Justice in a community is only as good as the Public Defender Office in that community. A good public defender office is the only real agent of change working in the criminal justic system. They see first hand the abuses of folks in the jail, in the court, and with police. They see systems, they see patterns and they see repeated acts by individuals.
The Hamilton County Public Defender Office lawyers saw patterns with police officers in the city and acted on it. They collected data, names and other pertinent information. They did what the Collaborative Agreement put in place; a chance for outside agencies to have available data to check on police activity, always hoping for the best. Unfortunately, this is not the case. This is what good public defenders do. Raise issues, seek justice and try to bend the systems towards fairness.

Something to read and consider.

The split decision reversed a second-degree murder conviction and determined that if law enforcement officers want to obtain private cellphone information from Google, they need a warrant.

An ongoing crisis. People sitting in jail without a lawyer should be unheard of here in our country. If we truly want to ensure justice to all we have to commit resources at every stage and on every side.

There are never enough lawyers to provide indigent defense, but the situation has gotten worse since the pandemic.

We are pretty sure this client was poor and represented by appointed counsel. Judges like this one in Texas are everywhere. They may not be handcuffing lawyers but intimidating them, demeaning them, being rude and generally a bully in a robe. It took courage to file a complaint and stand up. It cannot get better for our clients unless you stand up and say "No, not today"
