Hey Girl Vote was a 3 month program of Hey Girl Hey aimed at raising political awareness and increasing civic engagement among q***r women of color in preparation for the 2020 Election. Hey Girl Hey provides a safe space for q***r and/or trans women of color to be restored and empowered through facilitated dialogue, community building and advocacy.
Through a series of events in various communities throughout Cincinnati, Hey Girl Vote engaged nearly 300 women for future activation around the election. Black women, the most educated group in the United States, have proven to be one of the strongest and most progressive voting blocs in our nation, yet consistently don't have a seat at the table. Hey Girl Vote sought to change that by providing an even more marginalized group of black women - black q***r and trans women - an opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns and the pressing issues at stake for them in this election. Some of the issues that emerged were the high rates of black +infant and maternal mortality in Hamilton County, where Cincinnati is located; the wage gap; immigration and voter disenfranchisement.
