Recovery happens in community, and we would love for you to be part of ours.

Join Prospect House for our Annual Community Picnic on June 27, a free, family-friendly event open to the Cincinnati community. We are looking forward to an afternoon filled with food, entertainment, fellowship, and connection as we celebrate hope, recovery, and the people who make this work possible. The picnic will be from 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM at the Birch Pavilion of Embshoff Woods Nature Preserve, 4050 Paul Road, Cincinnati.

Whether you are a neighbor, supporter, alumni, family member, or simply someone who wants to learn more about Prospect House, you are welcome here.

The monthly Prospect House dance sponsored by the Black Support Group will not be held on the 27th due to the extensive picnic festivities.

Since 1970, Prospect House has worked to bring recovery within reach for men facing addiction and limited resources. Events like this help us continue building relationships, reducing stigma, and strengthening our community together.

Beautiful, sunny days like today naturally make you think of summer. All the fun summer things to do, like swimming, outdoor carnivals and festivals, and picnics! One of Prospect House’s most beloved events has always been the Annual Prospect House Picnic. Though the picnic has been shelved for the past few summers, beginning with the Covid years, we are finally excited to announce that it is officially back ON this year! We will be at a new location, Embshoff Woods Park in Delhi, at the River Birch Shelter. It will be on the (traditional) last Saturday in June – June 27th, and go from about Noon – Dusk. We will have music, games, and of course, plenty of your favorite cookout foods. Bring the family, and join us to help celebrate Prospect House, family, and summer! More information will be available as we get closer to the date.

At Prospect House, recovery is more than just not using drugs or alcohol, true recovery is also regaining that sense of purpose, of pride, and of who you are in this world. You are important. You matter.

For those of you who may not know, Prospect House is a long-term abstinence-based treatment facility for men struggling with alcoholism or addiction. Our clients achieve sobriety through intensive counseling, structured peer support, accountability, and spiritual growth, a formula which has consistently produced success rates in excess of 70%. Clients learn the benefits of having free, accessible, and continuous community support in programs such as AA and NA, and can achieve significant personal transformation, healthier relationships, and greatly improved mental health.
Prospect House’s 12 step based long term residential treatment model provides strong support for men who may have been unsuccessful in other treatment programs, and tried many other ways to maintain sobriety. When nothing else seems to work and hope is fading, there is hope for full recovery at the Prospect House.

As sobriety is realized, we are also addressing the medical, dental, psychiatric, and vocational/educational needs of every client who comes through our doors.

When it is time to make the commitment for lifelong change, The Prospect House has been helping to restore men to freedom and dignity, to their families, and to their communities since 1970.

Thinking about the one and only Roger Zellars a lot today. Of course, at Prospect House, he is still often on our minds. It’s been just over four years since Roger passed away, after dedicating decades of his life to Prospect House and helping people in general. He was a no-nonsense kind of man who was a strong leader, but he was also a giver, with a big heart. Roger’s memory lives on in his legacy and his spirit. To honor Roger today, I encourage you to intentionally do a kind act for someone else—whether it’s a hug, a compliment, or a cup of coffee—and let them know it’s in Roger’s memory. By doing so, we amplify the positive ripple effect he started.

Candy and cats: two beloved traditions that have shaped life at Prospect House for years. The candy bowl in the office is more than just a treat; it is a symbol of comfort and community, always ready to offer a sweet pick-me-up. For those in early recovery, candy can spark the brain’s pleasure centers, offering a burst of dopamine and a little energy to help ease withdrawal symptoms. And then there are the cats. As long as anyone here can remember, people have been dropping cats off at Prospect House, and local feral cats gather here as well. Thanks to generous sponsors, our feline companions receive care and treatment, while staff and alumni make sure they are well-fed and loved. The presence of these pets can also aid in addiction recovery by helping to reduce stress, ease loneliness, and to foster a sense of purpose in those who help feed them. If you find yourself at Prospect House, be sure to grab a piece of candy and say hello to our cherished cats, including our gentle porch kitty, Miss Tiger.
