May Festival Youth Chorus

The May Festival Youth Chorus connects, inspires, and educates young people through the study and performance of choral music. Since its founding in 1987, the Youth Chorus has appeared annually at the May Festival, the oldest choral festival in the western hemisphere, to perform masterworks of the choral repertoire. The Youth Chorus appears frequently in concerts with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestras and the May Festival Chorus. Through the support of the May Festival organization and its generous donors, the Youth Chorus is tuition-free for all singers; acceptance is based solely on ability and commitment.

Singers in the mixed-voice Youth Chorus master a concert repertoire ranging from the Medieval era to contemporary commissioned works, and enjoy highly professionalized rehearsal and concert experiences. Alumni of the Youth Chorus perform as professional and avocational singers in Cincinnati, across the country, and around the world.

The Youth Chorus has been led by a distinguished roster of conductors, including John Leman, Robert Porco, and James Bagwell, who led the chorus for twenty seasons, beginning in 1997. The current director, Dr. Matthew Swanson, is Associate Director of Choruses at the Cincinnati May Festival.

We warmly welcome inquiries from interested young singers in grades 8-12. Visit mayfestival.com/youthchorus for more information.
