RefugeeConnect

RefugeeConnect RefugeeConnect is proud to be a United Way Funded Partner. Many American families have come to the U.S. fleeing oppression in their homelands.

RefugeeConnect’s mission is to connect refugees (people forced to flee their country to escape persecution or war) with resources to rebuild their lives as United States citizens. The Junior League of Cincinnati launched RefugeeConnect in 2013 after a routine community needs assessment determined that connecting refugees to existing resources was a pressing need for women and children in Greater C

incinnati and Northern Kentucky. Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky specifically have a long history as a refugee resettlement community, beginning with the Holocaust survivors during World War. The initial community needs assessment revealed a lack of coordinated education, employment, housing, health care, and other essential services for refugees. The two years of research from 2011-2013 found a lack of coordinated refugee services in Greater Cincinnati. The findings identified that investing collaboratively in three key areas could change outcomes.

1. Close the gap between services provided and refugees' immediate and long-term needs.
2. Create pathways to self-determination and self-sufficiency.
3. Promote community acceptance through volunteerism. In 2018, RefugeeConnect became an independent nonprofit organization that to this day helps refugees, and asylees navigate unfamiliar systems, new cultural norms, and language barriers. RefugeeConnect promotes coordinated services so that this specific population of new Americans, who may be unaware of the patchwork of crucial resources already in place, reach their full potential as individuals, families, and civic and community leaders.

Care BEYOND arrival indeed.

We’ve officially surpassed our initial goal of $5,000 thanks to this incredible community and the social work students at NKU. but the need doesn't stop there. These funds provide a lifeline for families navigating new health and legal systems in our city.

We still have a few hours left in the campaign and every dollar raised goes directly toward health navigation services that help refugee families navigate complex systems and find stability.

Let’s see how much impact we can make in these final hours! Project ends on April 24, at 11:59 PM EDT

Since 2022, our Health Navigator program has grown from one part-time staff member to two full-time, Ohio Board of Nursing certified Community Health Workers. This means more families are getting connected to primary care, insurance, and the vital resources they need to thrive in their new home.

We’re also breaking down barriers through our health literacy videos, ensuring everyone can navigate the US healthcare system with confidence.

A massive thank you to bi3 Fund, Social Venture Partners Cincinnati, and United Way of Greater Cincinnati for believing in this vision and providing the coaching and funding to make it possible. 💙

Public health is only as strong as its most vulnerable members. 🏥 This , we’re moving beyond awareness and into action. Our goal is to raise $4,550 to fund cultural leaders who act as vital Health Navigators for refugees in our community.

We’re over 50% of the way there—will you help us move the needle? 📈 Support the fundraiser here.

Today marks the beginning of National Public Health Week 2026, and this year’s theme couldn't be more fitting: "Ready, Set, Act." In the world of public health, "acting" often looks like policy shifts or large-scale data sets.

Care doesn’t end at arrival. 💙

For many of our new neighbors, navigating the U.S. healthcare system is a daunting maze. That’s why we’re so proud of our Health Navigators Program, where trusted cultural leaders become certified Community Health Workers to guide families toward the care they deserve.

This semester, social work students at Northern Kentucky University are stepping up to help us reach a $4,550 goal to keep this vital program running. From scheduling medical appointments to advocating for trauma-informed care, your support ensures no one has to navigate their health journey alone.
