"Parents are motivated to seek ways to ease the burden, and experts are motivated to offer them. But it's important for parents to examine whether their perceived solutions to the difficulties of parenting are isolating them from their own inner knowing and from one another rather than bringing them closer to both."

From my experience, there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to kids. Parents are becoming more isolated and not trusting themselves.

"She says in Western culture, there's an evolutionary mismatch. On the one hand, we're often expected to take care of babies on our own, but humans have evolved to care for babies in another way - that is with lots of help."

Allo parenting, in which non-biologic parents serve as a child's caregiver, is common in many parts of the world. Mothers have help provided by several others, including neighbors and older siblings.

Our summer caregiver-child class families have been engaged in lots of meaningful observation and learning. We'll wrap up the 7-week session with a discussion about incorporating nature and look at "what comes next" in the second part of the first plane of development, which includes a tour of the school garden and 3-6 classroom at Meridian Montessori.
