UCAN Nonprofit Spay/Neuter Clinic performs approximately one thousand spay/neuter surgeries per month. They are booked out until the end of the year. That means 4,000 people are already booked and so many waiting. These appointments are like winning the golden ticket from W***y Wonka.

We are sending out reminders today for next week's appointments. One response was "You can cancel our appt. Our dog passed away from Parvo". That just crushed me. I'm not here to shame anyone but I am here to remind people that when you get a pet it's your responsibility to keep them safe until fully vaccinated. That means no dog parks, the safety of your own yard (no neighborhood walks), no visits to dog stores. Your pet is at risk of all types of diseases until fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means an initial set of shots with 2 follow up boosters usually 2-4 weeks apart. They are not fully vaccinated unless that protocol is followed.

Parvo can live in grass and carpet environments for up to a year. No one is mandating that dogs that visit pet stores and most dog parks have vaccines.

Be your pet's advocate! There are many FREE and low cost vaccine clinics. Google your area.

Being proactive is always the best medicine. Many times Parvo pups can be saved if caught early but at a cost that is much more than a vaccine.

Highland county and surrounding areas. Vaccine clinic this Friday. DAPP for dogs is free. Rabies and Bordatella (kennel cough) vaccines are $15 each. Follow directions on original post, please.
