Just after 1:00am on July 5, crews responded to the 5500 block of Nickview Drive for a building fire. Engine 55 launched an aggressive interior attack to keep the fire confined to the garage area. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters, and the cause is under investigation. Thank you to our mutual aid partners with Cheviot Fire Department, Colerain Township Fire Department, and North College Hill Fire Department for the assistance.

🇺🇸 July 4th Safety Reminder – Celebrating America's 250th Birthday 🇺🇸

As you celebrate this historic milestone and enjoy time with family and friends, please keep these important fireworks safety tips in mind:

🪣 Keep water nearby. Always have a bucket of water or a garden hose readily available in case of fire or other emergencies. Once a sparkler or fountain has finished burning, soak it thoroughly with water before placing it in the trash to help prevent fires.

👓 Keep a safe distance. Spectators should remain a safe distance away from anyone using sparklers or fountains. Wearing safety glasses is strongly recommended.

🚫🍺 Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

📍 Follow all local and state laws. Celebrate responsibly and be considerate of your neighbors and your community.

🎆 Please celebrate safely and leave the larger fireworks displays to the professionals.

Today, our department was honored to assist our fellow brothers and sisters with Cincinnati Fire Fighters Union Local 48 by providing coverage while their members gathered to celebrate the life and mourn the loss of Firefighter Ryan Zwick.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with Firefighter Zwick’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters.

Rest in peace, firefighter Zwick. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ryan’s friends and family and our Cincinnati Fire Fighters Union Local 48 brothers and sisters during this difficult time.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Cincinnati Fire Fighter Ryan Zwick, who courageously battled occupational cancer.

Ryan dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Cincinnati and standing alongside his Brothers and Sisters in the fire service. His strength, professionalism, and commitment to others will not be forgotten.

Today, we ask our members, retirees, families, and community to keep Ryan's loved ones, friends, and fellow fire fighters in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Occupational cancer remains one of the greatest threats facing the fire service. Ryan's passing is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices fire fighters continue to make long after the fire is out.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the day and pay tribute to those who gave everything for our freedom.

At 09:18 today units from Green Township Fire & EMS were dispatched to the 6700 block of Harrison Avenue for a fire alarm activation. While responding, units were advised that the whole apartment building was full of smoke, so the incident was upgraded to a building fire response. Engine 53 arrived, located a working fire in a second floor apartment and performed an aggressive interior attack, declaring the fire under control at 09:33. Thanks to our mutual aid partners from Miami Township Fire & EMS, Cheviot Fire Department, Whitewater Township Fire Department, and Colerain Township Fire Department for the assistance. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters; however, one dog died as a result of the smoke from the fire. The cause is under investigation, but is not considered suspicious.
