When Anxiety Speaks Through the Body: A Postpartum and Mental Health Journey

by: Taylor Toerner
Consumer Senior Analyst, Key Bank

Writing about my mental health journey on Mother’s Day weekend feels fitting. Looking back, I can realize that I probably always dealt with anxiety. I was a kid who worried a lot and cried a lot over things out of my control. I was having panic attacks, before I had a term for it, and in a time when adults didn’t understand mental health. As I got older, I seemed to grow out of it. In reality, I think my focus just shifted. Friends, college, graduations, weddings; all things that distracted me or made me worry about something that “made sense”. People understand stress about exams and pre-wedding jitters. It’s “normal”.

My first postpartum experience was...Click the blog link in our bio to read more of Taylor’s story.

Huge shout-out to New Richmond Middle School’s team for donating their time, creativity, and artistic talent to create this incredible mural. 💚

Spanning the entire length of the cafeteria wall, this student-inspired masterpiece serves as a daily reminder for students to lean into their sources of strength to build resilience. All 8 of the Sources of Strength are represented: from positive friends and healthy activities to generosity and mentors.

This mural is more than artwork. It’s a powerful and permanent reminder that mental health matters and that there is always hope, help, and strength. We’re so proud of these students for using creativity to help .

Change Can Be Both
Hard and Beautiful

By: Stacey Jones
School Program Manager, 1N5

Nothing quite shakes up our mental wellness like change. A new job. Bringing home a baby from the hospital. An injury that changes the course of your athletic scholarship. Losing a job. A car mishap that financially tests your wallet. A marriage. A divorce. A diagnosis that changes everything. A loss. A house move. All of these can shake us to our core and sometimes leave scars and heartbreak, but as wildcards have come my way, I’ve found that change can be both hard and beautiful.

Let’s be real. The beauty of change takes time. For instance, you can’t lose a pet and suddenly feel that all is well in the world a few days later. Pain is just as important as joy, and we must take proper time to name it, acknowledge it, and maybe even settle into it for a while before we can grow from it. And just to be clear, your “while” may be vastly different from my “while,” and that, too, is okay…Click the blog link in our bio to read more of Stacey’s story.

It’s Mental Health Action Day—and sometimes taking action starts with learning how to use your voice. 💚

In the latest from our series, in partnership with Cincinnati Children's, Lisa Amann, Senior Analyst in Government Relations at Cincinnati Children’s, shares how parents and caregivers can advocate for their children, why that advocacy matters, and the real impact it’s already made across the state of Ohio.

From speaking up in schools to helping shape policies that support youth mental health, this conversation is a reminder that creating change doesn’t always have to feel overwhelming. Small actions, honest conversations, and showing up for kids can make a bigger difference than you think.

Because when it comes to mental health, advocacy is action. And action creates change.

The Importance of Self-Care In A Busy Season of Life

by: Lauren Bell (Social Media Assistant,1N5)

Through wedding planning from August 2025 to the big wedding weekend in April 2026, there’s a lot I’ve learned. One of the biggest lessons has been patience—whether with myself, my now husband, or the timing of the planning process. Patience doesn’t always come easily, but when I take a step back, I feel calm and notice how much my stress decreases.

Taking Time for Self-Care: I’ve become more intentional about stepping away from the hustle and bustle of wedding planning and the demands of everyday adult life. I now dedicate time each day—or at least a few times a week—to activities that help me feel calm and balanced...Click the blog link in our bio to read more of Lauren’s story.
