Selling things you no longer need on-line has become a popular way to earn $$$. But scammers have also gone on-line to take advantage of trusting sellers. Here are some tips from the Federal Trade Commission to avoid being scammed. 1) DO NOT accept a mobile payment from someone you don't know. A scammer will claim the payment went through when it didn't or tell you they accidentally paid twice and seek the difference. 2) DO NOT deposit a check you get for more than your selling price. The scamming buyer just wants you to pay them the difference on a fake check, leaving you out of money and without your item once the check is determined to be fake. 3) DO NOT give a buyer who texts you using Google Voice the verification code you receive in the text. Doing so will allow the scammer to use the code to create a Google Voice account connected to your phone number and use it for more scams! See more consumer tips at www.ftc.com. And if you are a scam victim, contact the Plan immediately at (800) 482-7700 so that a Plan attorney can help you take steps to protect yourself.
