5th May 2026 - *Tuesday of the Fifth Week of Easter*
Acts 14:19-28
John 14:27-31a
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
“You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me, but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.

*Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.*
Jesus knows exactly when and what is coming his way. He blesses his disciples with peace as He knows He is about to leave for the Father.
After spending about three years with the disciples, they are going to miss Jesus’ physical presence but they are not going to live in desperation.
Jesus equips them with His peace, the real peace that the world can not take away.
The Lord’s peace will accompany them amidst persecution, rejection, suffering and hazardous missionary journey. And we know many of the Lord’s Disciples or Apostles died in horrible ways in the missionary mission but they had the Lord’s peace until the end.
St Philip, for example, was said to preach the gospel from the cross when he was crucified. This is the peace the world, who do not know the Lord, would never understand.
We, too, receive the same peace from Jesus, the peace to build the Kingdom of God, the peace that can bring us through the up and down of life calmly.
We shall not fear of persecution, rejection or suffering which we will face in our calling or mission. It is in such persecution, rejection and suffering that we would witness the peace that Jesus speaks about.
This peace and steadfastness in us is often tested when the work we do does not go the way we want it to be, we feel frustrated, we want to give up, we want to quit, we want to walk away from the Lord.
The Lord’s peace in us allow us to endure suffering, to overcome suffering and even to rejoice over suffering, but we often forget that we have the Lord’s peace in us, we lose our cool easily, we easily feel disturbed, we let others define our happiness, we allow ourselves to live in desperation over the worldly things.
This is when we need to bear in mind the word Jesus has spoken to us - *Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.*
We must remember that the challenges and struggles we face in our service for the Lord, in our calling and mission are often used by God to grow our faith and steadfastness, to build our character and attitude, and to shape our hearts that we may become more like Him.
*Peace through Christ's Gift* - Jesus promises his disciples the gift of peace, a peace that is fundamentally different from the peace that the world offers. It is a deep and abiding peace that transcends worldly circumstances and troubles. As followers of Christ, we are invited to embrace this peace by cultivating a close relationship with Him, trusting in His plan, and surrendering our worries and anxieties.
*The Victory of God's Plan* - He speaks of the ruler of this world being judged and the prince of this world being cast out. This refers to Jesus' impending sacrifice on the cross, through which He will triumph over sin and death, defeating the forces of darkness. Jesus' departure and sacrifice are not signs of defeat, but rather the culmination of God's redemptive plan. This reassures us that even in times of uncertainty or challenges, God's ultimate victory is assured.
*Jesus, You give us the real peace that the world cannot take away, I trust in You.*
